"special gift" from bmw in the mail

did you get this?
package in snail mail with a flash drive.

says "By now you're settling into your new BMW. But we want to make sure you're enjoying your driving experience to the absolute fullest. Enclosed you'll find a flash drive that contains some very enlightening videos. These videos reveal special features and technologies inherent to the X3 that you may not know about. So watch, discover and enjoy...." Goes on to talk about the invitation to go to Spartanburg Performance Driving School.

i should put this flash drive in and learn something.

has anyone watched these yet? does anyone have the cliffs notes? i have a 3 month old--i'm totally not motivated to learn about my car. shame on me.

ok thanks judd, that's what i was thinking.
i'm usually really excited to read my owner's manual and learn everything i can about my new wheels.
am realizing, however, that going from 1 to 2 kids is a helluva lot of work!

You may want to download the Owners Manual from "My BMW" in PDF format.
http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...tOverview.aspx
(This URL works for me, but you may have to log in to your own "My BMW" account to be able to download a Owners Manual)

It's a lot easier to read on a large computer monitor, and it's easy to follow the many page jump references that way (using a pdf reader).

You should receive a small "Quick Start" booklet in the mail which covers the very basic control locations and basic functions. You should also get a leather covered BMW flash drive with some basic functional videos. They cover some basic iDrive operations and may inform you about some functions you didn't know existed.

For instance, I learned that just holding your finger in front of a radio preset button (without depressing it) will display that button's preset setting at the top of the iDrive screen, without actually selecting the new preset, and pressing the first and last radio buttons together will clear all the presets.

I found this out by accident. Very good design.

What I learned is that those buttons are not only for radio. The radio presets are actually under "Radio - Radio Presets" from the iDrive. Although I do have mostly radio stations set on those buttons, I've got a couple of Navigation addresses set up where I just hit the button and the Nav is automatically set. (This is maybe 5 seconds easier than going to Nav - Recent Addresses

I use it to start Bluetooth audio right away. It's very convenient.

I still say 2 kids is more than twice as much work as 1. You've still got all the things you need to do separately for each of them with the added complexity of coordinating the activities. I specifically remember standing in the hallway one night listening to both of them cry and trying to decide which one to go to. Awesome.

It gets easier as they get older though. Mine are 5 and 3 right now.

That reminds me! I still haven't tried your suggestion on the Bluetooth audio. Will try tonight and will be adding as a favourite if it works

Hawk and MA78, glad to hear there are some folks w little ones on here. I have a 4 yr old son and an almost 4 month old daughter. The 4 yr old is on auto pilot. Love my daughter but occasionally find myself wondering why on earth we voluntarily introduced more chaos into our lives? And then there's the matter of my turning 40 one month after having my daughter....makes me tired just thinking of it!

In my case it was about 4-1/2 weeks, but it's probably less now. Also received a recent email with a link to the same videos.
The BMW drive was a nominal 2GB (formatted: 1.86 GB) and contained 1.78 GB of video and the video overhead files. Just left enough room for a handful of small mp3's.

It's useless. Don't feel bad if you don't get one.
