Drivers side 'glovebox' keeps opening

It seems like the handle of the 'glovebox' (or small storage compartment under the steering wheel on the drivers side) broke on mine. I think it must have a spring, but I can't find it anywhere. Common issue? I guess I have to replace the entire box since BMW does not sell just the handle. (I put an ad up in the classifieds, located in Madison, WI)
