Windscreen replacement with HUD

I've got a 2013 F25 and had a stone chip back in Sept 2019 that was repaired / filled in. The resin or whatever they use seems to have fallen out fairly recently so I booked in with Autoglass via my insurer LV and they came out today but said they cant repair it a 2nd time so will have to be a replacement. I've requested OEM glass as I've read issues with rain sensors and HUD if you go 3rd party. I'm waiting on a quote to see how much extra that will be over the £140 standard replacement excess. Apparently insurance companies only normally go for OEM glass if car us less than 3 yrs.

I will probably give BMW a call on monday and see how much they will quote but I suspect they would probably outsource such a task to a local specialist anyway. As welll as my local mechanic who is ex BMW.

So would anyone know who BMW UK tend to use for such work or does that depending on dealer franchise (my local is Marshall BMW in Hook nr Basingstoke)?

Any other insight into issues with non-OEM replacement glass (especially with HUD) would be appreciated.

I've had the windshield replaced four times due to rock chips and cracking. Only used BMW OEM glass once. Never a problem with aftermarket glass from a reputable supplier.

Do you have HUD and it worked fine on the OEM glass?

I have HUD on my 2012 X3 and have replaced my windshield with aftermarket glass with no problems.

Worse windshield ever, 4 chips in 2 years...

In the previous 30 years I had 1.

I have HUD on non-OEM glass and it's perfect. I think the "problems" are mostly urban legend.

Of course. I read the original post and would not have replied if I didn't have a HUD. To reiterate, I have had multiple non-OEM windshields in my X3 and the HUD has worked fine with each one.

Autoglass are the main company doing this work here in the UK and plenty of HUD issues flagged if you read the reviews when using non OEM glass. Not just on BMWs but definitely some BMW specific cases. I will await the quote to see what the price difference is and proceed from there.

Well my insurance company approved OEM glass at no additional cost to me (over and above my glass excess) which I must admit I was surprised about on a 9yr old car but happy with that. Its been ordered just need to await delivery now to book in for fitting.
