Ok, so I installed my Rear Fog Switch today bought from ECS Tuning. I see the Dash Light go on for the rear fog, but I see no difference in the lighting on the rear of the vehicle. Am I missing something? BTW its a 2013 35i M-Sport

Much safer in heavy rain and fog, the following vehicles can see you way more easily.

I purchased my Euro switch from ECS Tuning last week and received it today. Installed in less than 5 minutes. As expected it's working but why are the bulbs already installed for a feature that didn't have a switch? Are those also used for hard braking lighting?

Congrats! [staples gadget voice] That was easy! [/staples gadget voice]
Because it is actually cheaper by a few percent to have one type of assembly to be installed in all X3s.
Nope, hard breaking by default is not configured afaik. I might be wrong, but you might need to do some coding to enable this feature. I also am not sure if they are used or not, because whenever I break hard, I am on the wrong side of the rear hatch!

I really want to get this, before I order I have a question - the rear fog lights that illuminate with the switch - are they just bright red , or are they orange (like the hazard lights just being on all the time)? I can't tell from the pictures / video.

Thanks

Mine are accessible now. ECS tuning about a year ago. Secondary benefit is that it seems to be a deterrent to folks that like to get up and personal from behind at highway speeds.

Same reason we don't get pretty much everything else
BMW is scared of the sue-happy Americans
Because some dumbass will claim his hand got burnt and sue BMW for 100 million dollars
Problem now is unless everything has a warning, people here assume its safe
So you have effectively dumbed down the population
As surprising as that may sound

How hard is it to remove the trim ? Is the one of their "tool kits" required ?

You remove the trim and switch assembly by just pulling it out. I just used my fingers, following the instructions dandanio provided.

I've done it as well. Easey Peasey. 5 minutes if you have the right Torx screwdriver. Bought the switch from ECS Tuning. Found it easy to remove the trim piece starting with edge nearest the steering wheel. Just used my fingers to pry it loose.

I would love to do this as well. Would it be compatible with my X3? How can I verify before ordering the unit?

I have a 2011 and it should work for yours but I thought Canadian vehicles had the rear fog light? If you purchase the switch through ECS and it doesn't work out they will take it back.

Thanks for the added info; actually not sure about Canadian versions in general, but mine definitely didn't come with this option and I don't recall seeing on the options list when I placed the order (Jan 2011).

Good to know that they'll take the unit back if it doesn't work though.

Got my order from ECS yesterday and installed this morning. Took a few minutes to install and works like a charm. Will come in handy on some parts of the highway on the way up to the cottage!
