wash/wax combination

I am looking for guidance on car care. I have a 2005 Black X3 and a 2012 Platinum Grey X5, and I plan to keep them for a long time. I live in Oregon where it rains extensively, and I do take them on long road trips and hiking trips and.

Is there a recommended car wash/wax combination that will work well over time that will protect the paint without abrasives? I also need guidance in how to take care of the lower external black plastic panels of the X3.

Any recommendations?

Recommendations

For what it's worth, I've been using Meguiars products since before they were available at retail locations. No, I do not rep. the products, just spend a lot of time over the years trying to find what works for me. And I may be a bit more particular in my practices than some, but I have vehicles which are nearly 20 years old with original paint and they still shine like new.

Here are the products I recommend.

1. Car wash soap; Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner

2. Polish; Meguiars Ultimate Polish

3. Wax; Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba Wax (liquid)

4. Black plastic trim; Meguiars Ultimate Black

5. Tires; Meguiars Endurance Tire Dressing (terry-cloth applicator)

Now, the finest products will only produce the greatest results, depending on the tools you use.

1. Make sure only the softest material touches your paint; wash mit, wax applicator, polishing cloths and towels must be micro-fiber.

2. Use different chamois for different locations. Don't use the same chamois for the engine bay, tires, wheels and door jams and then on the exterior painted surfaces or vice versa. I recommend "The Absorber" which can be found at Walmart or any auto parts store.

3. Don't use the same wash mit for the wheels, tires, or engine bay as you would for the exterior painted surfaces. Wash the tires and wheels last after washing the entire vehicle.

(Wash out your tools after each use.)

Best of luck!
