Heated Seat repair help
Hi,
The heated seat on a 2007 X3 si seems to have stopped working. The back part works, but the bottom part does not. Dealer quoted a ridiculous price to have the element changed (they actually change the whole seat). Has anyone tried fixing this alone? It seems like the heating element is broken...can this be replaced alone? Any writeups available? Thanks! |

The element is a hex grid of carbon fibre threads. No single break can break the circuit. Measure with a DVM the resistance across the pins, expect about 6 Ohms. Open circuit=severed wire. One of the pins is a thermistor. Ground is always brown.
If you need a new mat, on ebay.de find a user called bmwe46driver http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/bmwe46driver who has mats for about $150 shipped, if you can't get the mat from BMW. |
