So you've got your new X3.. what options didn't you get that you now wish you had..

As each new generation of BMW comes out, and new toys with it, certain toys always become 'the must have' that you always get moving forward.. back in the day when AC wasn't standard, Heated seats etc..

Also.. if you know that someones missing part can be fitted by a dealer without dismantling too much post it up along with any costs if you know them.

This time, I am regretting not getting comfort access.. I had this in the M3, but due to the costs, I put that cost towards upgrading the speakers.

Also starting to wonder if the rear view camera was something I should have got.

None for me. I have everything except the HUD, which would be a cool toy, but I still don't regret not getting it - given the price.

I agree. HUD is just a gimmick really. It was on an M5 I had a few years back, and it was very cool.. but at the price of it.. no way.. had it been a few hundred then I would have got it.

When I started my upgrade journey the decision to change from an M3 was based on a couple of factors, primary was having to cut my costs, I was spending $1000 a month on fuel, the lease payments were similarly high, plus service, insurance, tyres etc and with prices as they are .. pain!

Initially I though the X1 was the car for me.. until I drove and saw it.. but the moment I drove the 3 it just felt right. Then I started the spec up process, and what started out at mid 30's ended up at 46 before any discount, a few more toys and I could have had a basic X5.

Actually (and I know I've taken my own thread totally off topic here) now I've got the X3 and seen its looks, and the number of comments I've had already, I now prefer its looks over the 5.

Perhaps I would have waited until M-Sport came out, other than that nothing really.

I'm not much of a fan of the M-Sport rear or sides but the front makes the car look downright mean. If M-Sport also added dual exhausts on each side like how the X5 looks I probably would have waited for production.

Beyu, I hear ya.. my first order was for 2.0 standard model, it was after order that the M sport and the 3.0 came out (In the UK initially it was only available in 2.0D) so I made the change as I preferred the meaner look, and when I spec'd up the bits I wanted, the difference between my spec'd up 2.0 and 3.0MSport was a little under 2k, so it seemed a good deal to jump 1 Litre and get the different look.

I have been on a similar journey. We initially ordered a 2.0se, then changed to an M sport, but as the spec crept up I realised a 3.0 was not that much extra and changed.
Although the car isn't here yet it is on its way I do wish I had gone for the rear view camera as both demo cars I tried had it and it seemed very useful.

We went for the "Mr. Holland's Opus" package which means it had everything bar automatic headlight dimming and the empty codpiece of the M-Sport package. Everything gets used and "non, je ne regrette rien"

for me, the list goes on and on and on even though i've yet to get the car..

sport seats, pro nav, 308 rims, extended storage, sunblinds, tailgate op...

but i had to draw the line somewhere... spent far too much on cars in the last 10 yrs... and just bought a 2 seater wkender...

Rear camera maybe
VSS (so I'd have DDC)
6NR (wasn't available when ordered)
Shopping bag hooks!

Some options you cant actually get but that would be nice:

Active cruise control
Electric steering adjustment memory

F25\'s lack of Comfort Seats

I am speaking from the point of view of currently owning an 2008 E70 and have been looking at the options available in the F25. I am considering a change but there is one defining feature missing in the F25.

Comfort seats, Comfort seats, comfort seats!!!

Still find it strange that BMW have yet to make them an option in the F25, I know some of you guys have made the point that this is an exclusive piont to the X5. But they were an option in the E83. Here's hoping BMW get this sorted.

Any info on the 2012 production having this as an option?

Kind regards.

Wish I got the power tailgate option. Although my arms are more toned now.

I bought a 28i on the lot and thought it had everything I'd want - having said that it has every option but the SAP - wish I had the x-line, bigger wheels, and sport seats. Damnit. Makes me want to trade it for a loaded 35i. Despite the MX issues, it's a very nice car.

Having my X3 30d for just over a month now and having just completed a 2,000 km round trip, perhaps the only option I might re-consider if doing it over again is the Comfort Access. Had it on my previous car (a Volvo) and I must admit I'm missing it. However here in Australia with all the taxes and things, it added up to an extra AU$1,100 and was just too much.

One option box I did tick and now probably would not a second time around are the steerable (bending) headlights. Not worth it. With my recent trip which included some nightime driving, I'm very impressive with the spread of the xenon headlights either side of the road meaning that having the steerable lights in the bends in the road really wasn't necessary.

HUD and automatic headlight sensor both skipped would have been nice but not worth the $$$.

definitely very happy w/ my specs, except I sort of think convenience is a bit of a waste. although i'm getting over that - orig the power lift back door came within an inch of hitting my garage door, but i found settings to limit how far it goes up - should fix that b4 i put a dent in my door. I guess i just need to get used to convenience key

the only option i would like, not available in the US is a 35d engine

I'm happy with everything that I ordered, and am not missing a thing that I didn't order. Now if the Diesel were available in the US...

If I wasn't too bothered about money I would have added:

Xenons
VDC (aka DHP)
Top View Camera
USB / Bluetooth
Wheels with real tyres, not RFTs (could have downgraded to 17 inch)
Heated rear seats
Pro Nav (though a TomTom seems to have fewer issues, as does Garmin on my phone)
3.5D engine

By not taking the above I can pay for my wife's Mini and I don't really miss the above much at all.

i got almost every option, but decided to cheap out with DHP and the power tailgate.

now i wish i ordered DHP, just to ensure i wasn't missing out on a broader range of suspension settings.

surprisingly, the tailgate is actually difficult to close, in fact more so than my MDX which is much larger. i assumed since it was smaller, it wouldn't be an issue.

Only change I would make is add the rear view camera as a free-standing option. Otherwise, very happy with my choices.

I got everything except the M-sport package. The only thing I wish I hadn't ordered is the BMW Apps with Snap-In Adapter. It ruins the center armrest storage compartment.

The high-beam assistant is alright, but I so rarely drive in places without street lamps.

As far as the HUD goes, I didn't expect to use it as much as I do. I originally ordered it just because I could, but it is so very worth it.

To the guy from the E70 X5; I completely understand. I came from an E61 with the 18-way multi-contour seats, and I wish the F25 offered them. The E83 had 14-way seats (if you ordered them), but even that would be enough. I just want that articulated seat-back, the electrically adjustable headrest, thigh-support, and active seat bolsters. Other than that, I love my car.
