Oil Leak near Crank

What do you guys think about where this oil residue is coming from? Do you think its from a crank seal leak?

I didn't think it was the oil filter housing since i didn't see a trail coming from the oil filter housing... and it doesnt look like any fresh oil anywhere else nearby

X3 is at 115k miles. Has had OFHG gasket replaced at 50k, valve cover gasket at 85k & 115k.

It doesn't look like a fresh leak in your pic so I would guess it could have come from anywhere at anytime and has just sat there all this time. Are you getting any oil dripping under the car? I would suggest to put some solvent cleaner on a rag, clean it off and see if it reappears.

In the past, it just looked like old residue, but i just had the car running for the first time since replacing the valve cover. The picture is hard to tell, but in person it looks like fresh liquid.

Haven't seen anything significant under the car, just a minor spot on the plastic cover under the engine.

I'll plan to clean it and watch.

Right, at this point, that is what I would do, clean all the spots you can find and then keep an eye on it. Removing the under engine covering is a pain but if you did, you would then be able to see if any drops form on the floor/ground. If its just weeping, it could take days of driving before you see anything.
