I drove an BMW 5 series with adaptiv cruise control and I was sold.
I Felt like a fighter pilot behind the steering wheel.. You guys who have tried this function out know what I am talking about
the cruisecontroll is basically the same except when you get close to a car in front, the car locks on and adjust the speed and distance to the Car in front, if it brakes your car brakes if it gives speed your car gives speed to the programmed speed..

When the car has locked the radar on the car infront, a car icon appears on the dashboard .. Lot like the radar lock on a fighter plane .
Sounds cool. I generally love gadgets just for the neatness of them, but there are a couple I've passed on. One was the HUD because of the special windshield. The HUD still sounds cool, but I didn't really need it and we get a lot of windshield chips around here (strangely).

That cruise control with the sensors and lights and stuff sounds like fun to me just 'cause it's there and works, etc. But did you really ever use it? When/where? I almost never use regular cruise control, so a better cruise control would seem like too much of a splurge. Or is it one of those things that works so well (or is enough fun) that you end up using it more?

Okay, after previously posting in this thread that ACC is an option, I double checked. It is not. I'd have sworn I saw it before, but I obviously didn't.

The funny thing is - the instrument panel is equipped for it. Have you ever had your X3 in a position where the sun is over your left shoulder shining directly into the instrument cluster? If so, you will see the Adaptive Cruise Control markers are there. So, was it a last minute bail for some technical reason, or are the planning far enough ahead so they don't have to modify the panel when they add it?

BTW, I think they need to rename this feature Adaptive Cruise / Distance Control. Who wouldn't want to check the option box for AC/DC?

I know the guys in Australia are hearing me....

'nuff said.

Delmarva = Delaware, Maryland, Virginia penninsula. Down the the beach resort areas there is a bay on one side and Atlantic on the other with a very short distance between. In fact, at one section the road you're driving on is about all the land there is.

Drives me crazy to see indications of potential gadgets I can't have. Like dummy buttons.

Any update on when there is a release for this feature on the X3? Still not showing on the BMW website as an option.

Motoring press sight this as a major omission...

Active cruisecontroll have been an option on the 6 series since 2008 and is available on the new 5 series , I have tried this function and I liked it very much.

The option is also available on the X6 series .. So it's a mystery for my why this safety option ( it also includes emergency braking ) is left out for the X3 series !

I have acc and My experience is the car does a far better job of braking than when iI am doing the braking with acc off.
