EGR Cooler Recall (again)

I've got a '63 plate F25 30D that already had the EGR recall in May 2019 where the EGR cooler was inspected and required to be replaced. Yesterday I received another EGR recall letter which reads pretty much the same as the first one but also included the statement "this recall will include the fitment of an EGR Cooler first made available in July 2022". So it reads like there is now a separate issue with the replacement fitted 3 yrs ago.

Has anyone had theirs replaced 2nd time yet? Last time was a right palaver as BMW had my car for 6 weeks due to shortage of parts. Admittedly I did get a brand new 530D touring for the duration so cant grumble (as remember others at the time were getting crappy rentals from enterprise).

I posted something similar https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1949171

As you said, it looks like the egr and cooler are getting replaced so the last one must still have issues.

I asked the service advisor last week when scheduling a repair and according to him there still wasn't a solution for this. Maybe he was out of date.

At least since my first repair 3 years ago I haven't had a coolant loss.

Thanks. Didn't think to check there but makes sense as a general engine issue not model specific. I cant believe BMW would have fitted the same version as the original faulty cooler considering how many were affected (120k vehicles in Europe iirc). Possibly there was a dodgy batch or incorrect version was fitted to some vehicles.

The letter wording seems to suggest only the cooler is being replaced. I don't have the previous letter but seem to recall it was more about checking it first then making a decision if it needed replacing. Just checked my paperwork which says EGR cooler tested, failed tested so replaced. So assume EGR itself was not replaced then either.

Back in 2019 3 different items were replaced as part of the recall. Of which only 2 were in stock so had to wait for the remaining part to be shipped from Germany.

EGR fix is finally available for Austin Texas USA! Just made my appointment this morning. Thought I would post here in case others are still wondering if and when it would be available. If you live somewhere else and are waiting like I was, I would recommend calling your local BMW dealer.

I'm attempting to get my headlight fixed again Friday so I'll ask. I'll be due for normal maintenance next spring (oil/tire rotation) so maybe that would be a good time.
