New order, can I request 2019 X3 m40i?
I am considering placing an order in the near future, by summer, but would like a 2019 build. How would I go about making sure that happens? I am starting to get figures back for a Spartanburg delivery, and if I find a great deal, do I put a deposit down to lock in that price and wait until 2019 models are available? I'm in no rush as I have a great vehicle that I am happy with.

Is that even possible - to place an order now for next year's build? I can see about leaving a deposit for a production slot, but I don't know how you would be able to lock down any pricing considering that the options and packages may be different in both features and cost. I don't think the CAs can put in any order for a future build - there are so many unknowns.

You also won't likely be locked in for the "great deal" you find, if you insist on a 2019 build, as the dealer won't have pricing or any of that info to see what deals they are able to offer.
Is there a reason you want specifically a 2019? It wouldn't make much difference unless it is being LCI'd for 2019 which I doubt it is in the second year. |

When will the 2019's order sheet become available? SIL is looking to take delivery around May and our CA told us she'll need to order in April for an X3 in general. We didn't discuss model years.

And also would like to have the correct M steering wheel and the option of M performance bits ie black grill. When does production usually start on the next year? Last edited by Landshark77; 03-09-2018 at 07:15 AM.. |

I never understood how automakers got away with releasing a vehicle in the current calendar year and called it a model year in which the entire planet does not yet live and breathe. but do you really have a 2019 if it's 2018 AND then when calendar year 2019 rolls around they release a 2020 model....? lol nahhhhh. you don't. it's when it was built.
someone explain the phenomena to me please. |

The 2019 X3 30i sDrive pricing guide was recently added to the BMW Press Group USA site. This is the rear wheel drive version with production beginning March 2018 so different model. My guess is the 2019 X3 will begin production this summer.

If they base it on build date, then on January 1st they would be switching to "a new model". Say the new X5 gets released this September, would you expect them to call this a 2018 model then come January 1st they suddenly call it a 2019 model? |

If that is confirmed for 2019 I will likely look into getting into a 2019 model, but if not, I will try to pick up a steal on a 2018 model. I think 2019 production models normally begins around August time, but not entirely sure. |

If my X3, built in November, were a 2017, and one built in January is suddenly a 2018, then the model year now tells us nothing about the car, as far as it's production run. As it stands now, we all know that 2018s had a certain feature set, available colors, factory tooling, etc. The alternative would be to have all the factories retooled in December to align production to the calendar and release all new models in January, or to pull back the model year by one to indicate production start, which is just arbitrary and probably makes less sense given the majority of current 2018s are in fact produced in 2018. I don't really know the answer, just speculating. I'm not coming up with a reason why they shouldn't do it the way they do now. 2017 or 2018, It's really just an arbitrary name for the production run, they could call it "bob". |

I think the whole world shifted to think like this after all of the annoyance in the 80's and 90's with the half-year models, and things like that. "Oh, you own an '86 Supra?" "No, I don't, I own an '86.5 Supra." It sounds like a child saying they're 8 and a half years old. Pedantic, but everything matters when it comes down to marketing. |

M steering is not confirmed if the MY19 X3 sdrive order guide is anything to go by. It's also not on the X4 order guide.

I'm going to feel bad for all the people who are holding off in hopes of an M sport steering wheel next year if it doesn't materialize. Maybe it's BMW I should feel bad for because they may anger customers and lose business, but the M40i is a great car regardless. Must be painful to hold off.

I believe USA don't have M-Sport steering wheel currently due to some crash test regulation in the X3 or something..because the M550i has the same steering wheel so there is definitely no production issues. Quote:
