2014 has the updated iDrive, new Nav, and new HUD

Just read it on another forum from someone who picked theirs up today. Thought that those who ordered the 2014's would like to know....

I remember updating the Mk2 and Mk3 nav systems in older X5s and 5 series to the DVD-based Mk4 system was pretty easy and a huge upgrade, hopefully the same holds true today.

The key update is that the iDrive is new (faster processor, more RAM, much bigger hard drive, upgraded higher resolution graphics card) that enables the new Nav and HUD features. This is not a software update, but a significant HW upgrade.

The question about upgrading from the old CIC iDrive/Nav to the new NBT iDrive/Nav has been much discussed on the 5-series and 3-series forums. The estimate is about $5000 worth of hardware, labor and codes (think of license fees) to get it installed...and then these is the question about whether the parts would fit in the dash

Common wisdom is that you'd be better off selling or trading-in the vehicle you have and buying the new one.

This is why many of us were agonizing over whether the new iDrive/Nav would be included in MY14 X3 cars from SOP on 1 April or whether it would appear later in MY14 (which is what is happen for some 3-series cars) or even next MY when the LCI (body changes) appear.

Most of the speedo is not digital - it's just the section at the bottom

The pics show a car with pro nav and you used to only get the fancy dash with pro nav so I'm guessing that still holds

I very much hope mine will be built with the full black display ... When they introduced the full black panel to the 5 series it was linked to ordering HUD for a while and then was available as a stand alone option. (I just missed out being able to have it on my 5.

Yep, similarly I just missed out on BMW Apps and decided to retrofit. Mine is now 2 years and 3 months old and it now officially has an old dash

Haha - true. I'm hoping to keep it for 5-6 years as it's well looked after, low mileage and has lots of options that I'd get no money back for on resale. I say that now but a new shape and a huge bill for out of warranty repairs may tempt me to switch .

Very happy with it though and no thoughts of changing to Audi. Evoque is to small and way too common

I get itchy-trigger-finger at 2years

hear you on the Evoque. I see them so often. Yet, I could count on one hand how many X3's I've ever seen (F25 variety). It frustrates the hell out of me that I don't see more as, now I've ordered one, I want to get familiar with the shape. I have to go to a dealer to see one.

I doubt anyone knows, but I have an MY14 on order with HUD and Pro Nav. Am I likely to get this new dash? It looks good.

IMO they'll switch production to the new dash at the same time for all markets so providing your X3 is produced after the Chicago one pictured above (which was delivered this week I presume) I think you'll get the new dash.

Delivery for UK is usually production start date + 6 weeks

i went for everything bar HUD .. but I would have ordered it if I thought I was getting this new dash!! Hope it's not linked to HUD, grrrrr.

had HUD before on the E60 M5, and absolutely loved it. I didn't bother on this one.. maybe that was a wrong decision
