When is it too late to make changes?

My car is a March production. I wanted to make a small change (add the storage package, a "feature" that is standard in most of the world but deleted in the Canadian model).

I called today and my sales person said the car is "in production" and that no changes can be made.

i just wanted to make sure he wasn't BSing me!

Is this nornal or should I be able to make changes?

Yes, too late..."In production" means it has already hit the assembly line. Usually status changes lag behind actual so it could even be pretty far into being built and possibly close to finished (takes about 3 days on the line).

Sounds like the CA isn't being very clear. My CA told me that once they have the allocation build can start at any time, so then it's important you don't make any changes. I would ask them for the production number or VIN...you can check yourself via the 800 number or web site. If it's "In Production" that means it's gone to build.

Yeah, just depends on the status. Like I said, it's all about the stage, if it's not "in production' you can probably get it changed, with only a slight risk. I would just verify the correct status with the CA or through BMW online/800 number.

Just curious, what feature are you trying to add?

When did you order it?

When I ordered mine in Nov, my sales gave me 1 week in case I change my mine.
My friend ordered from a different dealer 1 week earlier than me got "3 weeks" in case he change his mind.

My car end up here last Saturday while his car in still in transit...

I ordered it about a month ago. He did tell me he couldn't "guarantee" any changes after I signed.
