Hi guys,

Just thought I should share with you guys.

Installed Akebono EURO1473 rear brake pads for a while now. Recently swapped to winter set with OEM rims and now I can see the brake dust. Summer set were black rims..

these Akebono brake pads are really nice
you can see the difference of brake dusts between OEM and Akebono

performance remains the same

For years I have used Akebono ceramic pads on my 2002 Z3. I cannot discern any difference at all in the excellent braking that car had with the BMW pads but almost completely eliminated the dust. I also replaced the BMW rotors with Brembo rotors and also have been satisfied with them.

just get the part on rockauto and go to independant shop to install it

I recently put on Akebono pads with Zimmerman rotors. I cannot remember how different the factory ones felt, so I guess performance is more or less the same for normal city driving. No dust. Love that!

Wow, good to know for when I cross that bridge. The initial bite of these Akebono pads are the same as the BMW's? That's usually one thing I find you lose when you go with the non OEM compound that has less dust.

I used Akebono Euro Ceramic pads on my E36 M3 and loved their performance and low dust. Will be replacing the OEM pads on my X3 35i with Akebono when the time comes.

Maybe I'm not understanding right but how are you comparing brake dust in the front vs brake dust in the rear?
the front wheels always have more brake dust..

the point is akebono has no visible brake dust at all. when i had the oem at rear, dusts are visible like front.

Eh... varies from car to car to be honest.

I could show you my front and rear every time i wash the car, and my rear is clean and front is dirty.

i dont get what you're trying to say here. do you own a bmw x3 f25?
did you know that the bmw x3 f25 rear pads wears faster than front? it's because rear brake biasing is used to prevent the front from dipping. also the OEM brake pads are non ceramic while akebono ones are. google the difference

Yes i have a 35i and what i'm trying to tell you in my case is my front wheels are ALWAYS dirtier than my rear wheels...

Just trying to let you know that it might not be a great comparison because in my case this is what happens.

Also in regards to the rear brakes comment you made - questionable.
If you do some research many many people are still saying they are changing their front pads more often than rears.

I have to wash my '14 X3 rims with oem pads and rotors EACH week. The dust is atrocious. Saving to change them to akebono pads and brembo discs now.

No you do not have to change rotors, ceramic pads work with OEM rotors just fine.

Of course, check the wear on your rotors when you change the pads, you might need to change the rotors too just due to wear.

Typically there are different pads in North America and Europe, due to Autobahn and different drivepatterns.

Here is my 5 kronor worth of experience from Europe.
-there IS a rear bias on the brakes - rears will wear faster and produce more dust.
-initial bite is good
-performance is good enough to stop wheelrotation - until ABS kicks in. NOTE: if your brakes are good enough to stop wheelrotation, "brake performance" is: road, tyres and ABS- not "brakes" or pads.

My fronts are also much dirtier than my rear. However, my rears are wearing down at twice the speed of my fronts. If you have the M model with the performance control, the rears are always braking to mimic torque vectoring when going around turns.
