LEMON

On account of the various problems my car has had, it has been declared a lemon. BMW NA is ordering us a new car; we added 19" wheels and the HUD no extra charge--fully loaded! It's like a second chance! T-minus 3 weeks.

That is awesome! Not the lemon part, but that BMW did the right thing and you're getting some additional benefits.

Did yours have the transfer case issue?

For review, can you remind us of the list of troubles your X3 had in this thread?

Can you also post the VIN? This way a potential future owner might be able to do a Google search to discover that it was a lemon. Not all used car salemen are scrupulous enough to share this fact...

Wow. Lucky you're in the US and not the UK it would be T-minus 9 months!

Great decision on upgrading to the 19s and HUD will be cool. I'll await some more Judd-top quality pics. Hope the replacement is trouble free for you

Thought the problems were all resolved, including the display warning issue being corrected with the transfer case replacement.

Did your problems re-occur?

VERY Good to hear BMWNA is doing the right thing.

My service manager tells me that my car is throwing "Chassis Stabilization Errors" to the error log, but I never see them on iDrive or anywhere else and my X3 seems to drive fine. However, based on the experiences I've read about on this forum I am keeping a close eye on things.

Glad to hear you finally are giving up the "lemon" for a new one! I remember on a previous thread you wanting to hold on to this one. I would have wanted it gone a long time ago! Can you list all the issues it had so the rest of us know of potential problems to look for? Congrats again

The transfer case issue occurred three times before being fixed but I bit my lip and suppressed the anger. That never came back. Then there were numerous interior rattles which ended up being steering rack and suspension creaks and loose pieces. This issue was addressed three times, and then a fourth time in which they ordered the wrong part from Germany, and I had had it.

The transfer case problem did not reoccur. You have nothing to worry about

Finally they're taking some responsibility.
It doesn't seem like you're encountering the same problem but who knows what could happen with faulty wiring. Keep that watchful eye and keep us posted.

I hope this one works out better for you. After reading these threads, it's the only new car that I've ever owned where I keep thinking, "Please Don't Break"! Anytime a light comes on I feel like Fred Sanford from Sanford and Sons TV show when he thought he was having heart attack. Oh, here comes the big one.

BTW, getting mud floormats this time?

Almost unbelieveable! Great news that they are trying to satisfy the customer as well they should. Ddid you have to pursue the Lemon Law or did they volunteer guilt or defeat? May your new one get here quickly and be without problems.

HUD

I'm intrigued that you added this to your "Take II" spec. What were the reasons for this?

That is good to hear...!!!
But would that be the case with every dealership (in the US) or some might start to escape the replacement based on LEMON? I mean, did you get to the point where any dealership would do the same, or it is different?

They volunteered out of guilt.
