Canadians lose out
To all those Ex-North America markets that I so envy, take note from this deprived Canadian. We get to pay $60 grand for nicely equipped x3 and yet not have the Full Monty.
A) We live in cold climates but do not have the auxiliary heater option. Our only option is a block heater, or an aftermarket electric glorified hair blow drier under the dash. Why I don\'t know. I get to spend 5 months getting into a freezing, iced over suv, pardon me, sav. At least my paws get warm when the wheel heats up. B) Our average distances driven are higher yet we have no diesel option, as pervasive advertising pushes horsepower over efficiency and your average N American consumer thinks diesels run on coal pellets. Dear BMW. Wake up. Dear international X3 oil owners with heating- I hate you. |

Don't blame BMW ... blame BMW-Canada. They're the ones that decide what to market and what to leave out. BMW-NA is the sole reason we don't get diesels here in the states.

The 335d is available in Canada and sells poorly. Lots of ppl "think" they want diesels, but when they are available, they don't buy them.
We don't have it so bad with BMW prices in Canada compared to Euro, Australia, etc prices. Canadians should not be such complainers when it comes to the choices and prices we have in Canada for BMWs. As to the interior auxiliary heater, it would certainly raise the price, and I, for one, would not want one.

Simply not true. Limited quantities of X5 diesels are available for a top line price point and sell out fast. X3 definitely not available. Im sure there would be stampede for a luxury It is true that Americans hate diesels out of ignorance and Canucks get treated as part of the same market. Specifically, with California emissions so strict, diesel is out for US and hence Canada.
And for those who misunderstood my humour, I wasn't complaining just noting that a luxury brand can always offer the customers better comfort options. |

As to X5 diesels, they do NOT sell out fast here, they are as available as the dealer's order book, and are not all loaded up (ie, high price point). What humor?

In Singapore it costs USD$190,000 for a base 28i... and you don't to own the car... You need to renew the license to own the vehicle every 10yrs...

In US dollars those figures are: $81 000 and $108 000. And yes, diesel costs here over one dollar per liter and bensin costs $1.18 per liter. And looking into more southern Europe, it seems that when things get more affordable, it tends to ruin the economy and banks... Comme Ci, Comme Ça. |

The 335d doesn't sell that well because it isn't AWD. However, every X5 I see on the road is a 35d.
The 335d should also be downgraded to the 320d and they wouldn't be able to keep them on the lot. Most diesel owners are frugal and are buying a diesel for the fuel economy and initial purchase price, hence why the VW TDI lineup can't be kept in stock up here. Give us a X3 diesel and it will sell like hotcakes. Canadians want diesels, but not all of us need the X5 size, weight, cost, etc. I will probably be forced to buy a X5 35d when looking for a replacement as the X3 diesel won't be here.

Good for you, stay with gas. :P
I want the option and don't mind paying a premium for having an X3 diesel, just like X5 diesel owners. The added torque is worth it. And I have a dealer as I am also in Western Canada Come to the Interior of BC once in a while, that is where the diesels are because we have hills and highways to drive. In Vancouver, lots of gas X5s because it is flat and they don't drive anywhere.

Funny, didn't know there was a dealer in Kamloops..?? Maybe all my info sources are incorrect. My cousin lives there and tells me no dealer. Kamloops dealer not listed anywhere. Strange? Regardless, as I am in Kelowna, I should think that qualifies as a part of the "interior of BC"; and here X5s are split about one third each engine. YMMV.

My dealer is Kelowna. However, I have bought all my cars from the Lower Mainland. Since Kelowna is full of retired oil money I wouldn't doubt that they are split that way. Regardless, the diesel version rocks and I want one in my next X3

Yeah agree we lose out because we have to pay more for a car with less options compared to the US. For me, that means I can't afford the x35i and the dynamic damper control and performance control...which is the car that most car mag or reviewers get to drive.
Less BMW...for the buck. In a few years, I might goto a used US vechicle X3 x35i when I get bored of my Canadian 2012 x28i. |
