Definitely cool.

I wish I could get the window/roof close with key fob and auto fold mirrors on my car.

My old 2004 accord would open the windows with the key fob and close windows using the key in the door.

New to coding (w/ BMW); have coded VW and Audi before with VAGCOM.

What cables, tool, software is required to code the newest models?

Also- I'm not very technical with building such cables... i used to just plunk the $350 on the vag cables.

What would a quality cable cost on ebay? Or should I look to buy elsewhere If I'm not interested in building one?

And again...

I have no problem buying the cable off ebay - but I've seen some that are bundled with software, that support the Fxx chassis'. Anyone have any experience with this? Is the software legit? Cable and bundled software was around $110.

I'm going to look for the cable. A few options that coding will give that I'd find really useful.

Not sure how easy all this is to do but its worth a try.

I would think the cable itself would-- USB and OBD - but not the software...

Anyone - thoughts? has anyone tried this?

I downloaded E-sys, but need a password/token to install it.
And then advice on which site to buy the cable from - Amazon has some for around 50/60 which I think would/could work on the F25...

Can you point me in the right direction on where you got ESYS from?

I've been doing some searching on the coding forum but haven't come up with where I can obtain a token. I think you need to be wary with the cables on Amazon as comments on the other forum suggest they need to be re-configured to work.

I would make sure you check up on the cable you're buying if you aren't going to build it. VAG-COM uses a system to connect to the CANBUS in the car, where as in the BMW there's actually a DHCP server in the car which assigns your laptop an IP using the ethernet cable. The software communicates with the car through TCP/IP instead of a USB data connection so it's totally different. The VAG-COM cable has some circuitry and intelligence to establish this connection, where the BMW cable is just a passthrough cable that connects some of the pins to the ethernet pins.

At the very least I wouldn't just buy an OBD to ethernet cable as it may be totally different. Ask for a wiring diagram from the seller and make sure the wires are connected to the right pins and it has the proper resistor as well.

This coding would void the warranty right?

Why would it void the warranty? Does it void when you de-badge? Does it void when you rewax? Does is void when you change grills or paint calipers? What happens when you add a mod to switch on real fog lights? Many go for new tyres or wheels. Making a setting on or off would never void a warranty. If one changes the torque speed characteristics, that's definitely questionable.

Unless it can be proved that the changes you made are the main causes of a failure or degradation of X3, it is pointless to question if it would void warranty.

These are my two cents.

OK so the cable came in the post and I have had my first try at coding.

After a few false starts I got everything up and running. There were 2 things I wanted to code this evening, activate the trunk button to close (as well as open) and the Start-Stop memory function.

Start-stop worked (no more having to press the button to deactivate each time )

Didnt manage to get the trunk close working though, will try again tomorrow.

All in all pretty easy when you have the PDF guides that are available. If anyone else is trying or wants to try feel free to PM me with any questions (not that I'm an expert by an means!).

Did you build the cable or order one pre-made?

EDIT: Just saw your post above where you listed the cable. Wonder if I can get one like that in the US? I'm not afraid of building my own though, I've made so many Cat5 cables over the years I'm pretty sure I could build this thing in my sleep...

Yes I bought mine, I have no clue how to solder and didnt want to risk it. I'm sure the place I got mine from will ship to the US but they are quite expensive.
