"Upgraded" from 2008 X5 to 2017 X4
I loved my X5 for many years, and it gave me about 100,000 miles of joy. But, as they say, you can't keep running an old PC with Windows 3.0. The technology and features have come a long way over the years, for sure.
When I had the 2008 X5 at the indy shop for my 2nd water pump replacement (this one lasted 80000 miles, so not too surprised), I decided it was time to browse at some replacement options. I filtered my local area search to X5, X3 and X4 in the 2016-2018 model years. My local BMW dealer had a few of each on the lot, all CPO. But the X5's were out of the price range I was looking at so I narrowed it down to a lone 2017 X4 and 2 X3's with similar age/milage stats. There was no contest. The X4 "had me at hello". It's a 2017 XDrive 28i turbo 4 model. While I read through this and other bimmer forums, people seem to gravitate to the M line, and that certainly is a sweet beast. But for the money I was prepared to spend, I love my choice. It came with some nice options, including the cold weather, driver assist and technology packages. The HUD gives some nice info like turn by turn, speed limit, alerts and radio stations/channels. Apple Car Play content is not displayed there yet until they get the dual display option fully incorporated, so I'm hoping we see this feature on some of the recent models. It would be nice to see Google Maps or Waze directions shown on the HUD when being provided by my iPhone/Car Play. The cameras for overhead and rear are a nice addition that I'd only seen on rental cars. My 16 year old who's learning to drive loves looking at the Birdseye view feature after parking to see how well she parked between the lines. The Turbo 4 has a nice kick to it while maintaining better fuel consumption than the X5 I said goodbye to. The paddle shifters are also a nice touch that gives a feeling of more control over the ultimate driving experience. All in all, I'm very impressed with this model and don't see many others around. I even had a few people over the past few months since owning it comment on it, asking how I like it, etc. It doesn't seem like bimmerfest and xoutpost have a lot of activity in the X4 forum(s), so I'll keep an eye on this forum. Just sold my minty 2001 X5 3.0i for a 2017 X4 M40i Carbon Black over Saddle. Loving all the tech, and the SAC look. Don't understand why so many hate the slope-back SUV's!

Beautiful car
Great pix, you have a beautiful car. I love that profile. I have the same in white, same wheels. 2016. Drives so well and the HUD is excellent; it's a great car. I feel a lot of pressure to go electric tho.
