Rough idle in the morning

Tried searching for this but came up empty. Until the X3 completely warms up, when I get to a stoplight and just sitting there with my foot on the brake, I'm feeling like the engine is misfiring but and sometimes feels like it wants to surge a little. But the tach is reading normal revs and it doesn't move. I don't get this feeling at all under acceleration or after the car is warmed up. I have a 2012 35i NON-start/stop. I always put in Mobil Super gas (91 Oct). What do you guys think it could be from? I only have 30K miles. Most days my commute is only 7 miles backroads one way and on those days I also just drive less than a mile each way during the day. Just more food for thought. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, people with the first model year were commenting on rough idles and surges when cold. Seven miles is not very far for getting up operating temp. Wonder if plugs are fouled. My independent BMW mechanic believes plugs should be changed at 50k not 100k.

I have a 2011 35i and I have had the same sensation happen. Tach and RPM remain steady. I have 20,200 miles on mine. No clue what it could be. It's doesn't always consistently happen, just here and there and very mildly when it does. Mine does not feel like wants to surge though.

Sounds worrisome. Our 2011 35 has always been as smooth as silk. There is a recall on loose/broken VANOS bolts which can lead to a rough idle. I'd definitely get it looked at.

I don't think mine is part of that recall and mine is a 2012 but now I'm thinking that I'm going to make an appt with the dealer to have it looked at. Happened this morning but after warming up it was fine. If it was plugs I would think it might not have smooth acceleration like it does. Thanks all.
