Just got VIN number of X3, indicates made in Germany?

VIN number started with WBAWY.

Doesn't WBA = Germany, Munich and 4US indicate the USA?

The car salesman also compulsively told me it was made in Germany.

I thought all X3's were made in USA?

I prefer the German one anyway, but I guess we will have to wait and see when we get the car....

The WMI part of the VIN is where the manufacturer is located not necessarily where the car is built. BMWs will all be WA-W0 for Germany. All X3s, X5s and X6s are made in Spartanburg, SC. I think X1s are made in Germany

I think all export models for outside the NA market will have VIN beginning with WBA-
My previous Alabama-made Mercedes also has VIN beginning with WDC- instead of the 4xx-

I wonder for those with WBA VIN, is your VIN visible underneath the windshield corner?

Well i am happy the X-3 is built here. Feels good to support the american economy even though the profits are going overseas. They employ a larger number of people in South Carolina, invest in the local economy and it appears after seeing how much effort they put into their plant. They are hear for the long haul.

This is correct. For a brief period even the NW-market ones had WBA, but they were required (or at least convinced) to change it for sale within NA.
