It was a very simple install with the switch as shown above. I purchased my switch from Tischner BMW.
I'm going to contact them to see if they can start carrying this for the X3. I might be the same switch in the new 3 so it'd be worth while.
Yes, you are correct, BMW doesn't think the US drivers know how to use rear fog lights. I have a tendancy to agree with them by all the SUV drivers I see driving around all the time with their foglights on.
Please keep us informed. This one mod I'd really like to do. Thanks

Interesting...I didn't know that.

I contacted Tischner this morning.
Jason responded already saying more than likely a no-go for selling the switch here. BMW stopped selling the e90 switch here several months ago as well.

I'll have to contact a friend of mine in Germany to purchase it and ship it over.

Don't want them on for the purpose of fog, but I think the rear lights look alot tougher when the whole backline is lit up, hence the question.

Doesn't fog over here...

I don't expect you do get fog in Brisbane but there will be parts of your country where it does but as this will just be a very small percentage of Oz I suppose that's why you don't have regs for fog lights.

Yes but you should appreciate that rear fog lights are bright and do dazzle other drivers if used inappropriately ie when not foggy or visibility otherwise very poor.

OP - do you have a part number for the switch?
Do you have Xenon head lights? It'll make a difference for the part number if you don't (I have them). Anyway, it did for the e90s.

There are four different euro switches. It depends on whether or not you have xenon headlights and whether or not you have a rain sensor.

Re: Qs on the part number.

Please refer to Real OEM website for P/Ns. It has the most up to date info. Recommended!

Found a source in the USA. ECS Tuning out of Ohio. I checked with a german supplier, but the shipping costs were a minimum of about $50, could be more but he didn't know the box size, plus the part would be about $66 without VAT. Here is the link:

I saw that too on the one I need (61319192744). Figured I'd post the source in case people don't mind waiting a few weeks. I'll probably order after the first of the year.

I have the rain sensor, but NOT xenon lights. Will this switch work in my car, or is there another switch?

Smile Info and advice - pls

Hi,

I was very impressed by your post retrofitting the light switch on 2012 X3 for the rear fog lights.
Would you please let me know where you sourced the switch to enable the rear fog lights; and cost? Also, I understand from your post, that literally, by replacing the switch, the rear fogs are good to go -- correct? Thank you.

Thanks to Dandanio and this forum, I now can use the rear fog lights on my US spec X3! It was extremely easy to do. I bought from ecs tuning.
