I've submitted another request too (I asked when they would introduce it earlier in the year , no response)

You need to get real with this app guys. I have a BB that works with iDrive office and I get SMS, BBM & emails on iDrive already. But remember looking at these messages whilst driving is akin to patching the DVD playback so it works when in motion and looking at google search when moving. Realistically you don't do it and the value of the app is limited to when stationary, at which point you can use the handset anyway. I am not one to be righteous but this is of limited value.

What about reading out loud? Any good or annoying as it reads parts of the email that you would skip over (e.g. signature, header)? Read out loud for SMS ought to be an improvement to pulling over and reading a new SMS on your phone

sfax,

Valid point about the voice playback (I quite like the slow synthetic accent BTW) but you can't reply by voice simulation (text, email etc) - can you?

No, but if it could it would be quite handy for basic message replies like "OK" and "No problem". I wouldn't trust it for anything more complicated or anything important seeing as voice recognition struggles with quite basic names in my phone book. I think for now you would always have to reply with a phone call - or use the car as an excuse for not bothering to reply at all

I noticed, when using the office feature with my BB that if you open a mail that is received when in the car, via iDrive, that the handset will still show the mail icon when you leave the X3. However, when you look for unread mail on the handset, in your house, for example, you cannot find any unopened mails! Maybe there are some other config settings I am not aware of to fix this but I don't use this feature anymore. The only value is the mail icon appears in the iDrive display, so at least you know visually, if you dont hear the handset vib or ping whilst driving on two wheels flatout testing the cornering speed.

Having incoming SMS's read to me when the iPhone is in the cradle would be very useful... Even if I couldn't reply.

I think one needs "BMW Apps" installed on X3 to use enhanced MAP feature of iO6?

Hoping not and don't think it should. The BMW Office feature, which reads out/displays SMS and email messages is dependent on a phone that supports the Bluetooth MAP profile. It shouldn't need BMW Apps.

Phone with MAP support, can exchange sms and email data with iDrive but deciphering it and displaying on the screen needs BMW support. Hope it doesn't ask for BMW Apps.
