misfires even after changing plugs - carbon fouled
I bought a 2013 x3 with 95k miles and it seems to run into the drivetrain malfunction problem when i accelerate over 3k RPM. Another issue is that the car stalls and struggle to stay on AFTER the engine is warm, meaning that it has no issue on ice cold start ups but will stall after you just it off and try again.
1. Changed spark plugs and the new ones are also being fouled , engine running rich 2. Changed air filter which was very dirty, cleaned the MAF sensor 3. ran a bottle of injector cleaner to clean any fuel injectors Noticed that the vehicle runs "cold". The temp gauge shows barely over 160 F even after highway driving. It's either the o2 sensor or the thermostat. Here's the bludriver live data. notice how the engine coolant temp actually goes down. Im thinking of taking out some coolant to force it to run hot... another thing , only 1 o2 sensor data is coming in. the other one is showing -100% which apparently is normal? not too sure. what are your thoughts? BMW charged me $110 dollars and didnt provide any meaningful information. link to blurdriver live data https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing |

I would download ISTA and get the codes that causing the DTM. Post them here.
Did you torque the spark plugs when you installed new ones? Or did you over tighten them? First time I did plugs on these cars I didn't know you could over tighten them. Turns out I got misfires because I cracked the ceramic (?) portion of the plugs by tightening the old school way. Have you replaced coils? Why would you intentionally attempt to overheat your car? Seems like a bad thermostat to me. It can cause misfires too because of the built in sensor uses data to help engine run. Did you test fuel pressure when car is cold and compared to when it is warm? Last time oxygen sensor replaced? These cars only have 2 o2 sensors one pre cat and the post cat. How's the idle? Possible vaccuum leaks? Last edited by Bdavi011; 12-14-2022 at 11:12 PM.. |
