Shell V power diesel (UK)

Just wondered if anybody has used this and found any difference in performance/economy to justify price differential with normal diesel ?

There are some long debates on other forums about whether these premium fuels are any good. I've read a lot of them but the jury's still out for me.

The owner of a taxi firm I use has been trying the different fuels over the last few years. He says that 'BP Ultimate diesel gives the best MPG of them all, it makes the car feel more urgent compared to regular diesel' - his own words.

I've never used the Shell one, but I do use the BP.

I did similar tests on the M3 when using the premium fuels, and with the BP Ultimate I do see improvements in mileage from a tank, but overall, when you compare it with the extra 5p+ per litre, and work it out, it balances out to roughly the same in my view.

Do you know if that taxi firm also tried the Shell V-Power diesel?

I used the V-Power in my previous 335d, had no problems, and am now using it in my 35d but often wonder if the BP would be as good or better. It is also a bit cheaper here in Switzerland.

I wish more people would post their experiences, and that there would be more independent and comprehensive testing/reports on these fuels. Of course both Shell and BP claim to have the best.

The TV show fifth gear tested certain fuels and V-power increased the BHP of the car where as BP ultimate did very little.
I've been using V-power for a while now and would recommmend it.

Thanks. Checked out the video and I guess I'll be sticking with the V-Power.

Yes he tried both. MPG better with BP Ultimate that Vpower diesel. He said Vpower diesel gave the best engine response but as he wants best MPG coupled with good cleaning, he runs BP.

Thanks. Yes I can imagine that would be his first priority. Mileage is very important for me but so is performance/smoothness and especially durability of the engine.
