New member, new X3

This is my first post on this fine forum. I just ordered a 2011 X3 35i.

The features include:

Black Sapphire Metallic
Sand Beige Nevada Leather
Fineline Wave Wood Trim
Technology Package with Navigation
Sport Activity Package
Premium Hi-Fi
Satellite Radio
Heated Front Seats/Steering Wheel

This is my first BMW, so I am pretty excited. I have driven Lexus (RX300 and later an RX 330) for the past 10 years. I test drove the X3 and compared it with the RX 350 and RX 450h, in addition to the very nice Audi Q5. The X3 3.5 was clearly the best drive IMO.

I am looking forward to hanging here and learning more about this model and BMW's in general.

Congrats on your order! I went through the same list of test drives and ended up here, too. Haven't ordered yet and still trying to hold off, but it's difficult coming back to this board constantly. Also, the more you read here, the more it costs you on your order!

Thank you for the warm welcome. It is scheduled to be built Week 18, which is next week. I will hopefully receive it by the end of May.

One quick question: I did not opt for the Smartphone Integration. I have an iPhone, but I didn't think this option was necessary. Am I missing something? What specifically is the benefit of this option?

Congrats!!! That's such an awesome vehicle. I love the new X3.

Looks like you're from Philly too. What dealer, if you don't mind my asking? I went to Devon Hill.

Welcome, and congrats on the X3!

As far as the Smartphone option, I'm not an expert on that yet - but there are two ways to get it: Standalone S.P. option which I belive provides the ability to charge the phone (optional cradle required ), increases signal strenth by tapping into the shark fin, and provides some degree of better integration. The other is the 6NR option BMW Apps, which includes the above, but also allows many of the iPhone/iPod functionality to be displayed and controlled via the iDrive.

Without either, you will be able to pair your iPhone via Bluetooth and make and recieve calls, your contacts will be uploaded to the vehicle, as well as recent call list and missed calls. That's about it.

Thanks for the info. Without the Smartphone Integration or BMW Apps, would I still be able to utilize the BMW Mobile Office functions via Bluetooth?

btw, I ordered this car through BMW of The Main Line.

The "Track My BMW" site states that my X3 is "At Preparation Center". Is that a fancy term for "at dealership"?

It means it finished production and is either waiting for a truck to bring it to your dealer (collecting dust like mine has since April 30th), or in transport to your dealer.

How long it sits there depends on when they can get a full truckload going to your area and truck availability.

Weird, since "En Route" is the step before "At Preparation Center".

I am expecting it to arrive sometime next week. If it comes sooner, then that would obviously be great.

That’s a carryover from cars shipped from overseas. The in-route would be from Germany to the port in the US.

After reading this post, I feel it would be at least one month before I can see my car, which ordered 2 two weeks ago~

Online tracking status is changed to "Start of Production" today. guitarpath, do you happen to remember how long it takes to become "At Preparation Center"?

It took eight days. Last Monday (May 2) it was listed as "Start of Production" (and indeed it did start production that day). Today (Tuesday May 10) it changed from "Start of Production" all the way to "At Preparation Center" (skipping the "Production Finished" and "En Route" steps).

Great! No wonder my dealer told me if everything goes smooth, i might get my car by the end of this month.

Thanks for sharing the info

I picked up my X3 today. I can't tell you how impressed I am with this car. Just a tremendous drive. The Sport Mode is very fun. And the thing is absolutely beautiful as well.

I'll take and post pics soon.
