changes the engine map so the turbo(s) kicks in later, adds a bit of latency to the first part of the accelerator curve, lower the response curve of the AC, and turn down the output of the heated mirrors.
The idea if that if you drive calmly, you have quite a bit more 'goo' under the foot, and thus save a lot of fuel... There must be a few more tweaks of course...

Just turn it on when you want to know what it is like to own a Prius, then turn it back off cause it sucks!

It's a bit like driving with a brick under the accelerator pedal, also gives a nasty throttle lag when you want some quick acceleration. Can be useful in certain driving situations if you are driving at a constant speed on motorway or fast road or in slow moving traffic. Saves a bit of fuel which is a good thing with UK fuel prices!
Pity that the switch for the control is on the centre console as you have to take your hand off the wheel to change it to comfort/sport, would be better on steering wheel. Other approach on automatic is to knock the gear lever into sport mode if you need quick acceleration. |

Remember we still have the same engine output in EcoPro, if we give it full throttle.
I was driving an F30 320d EfficientDynamics the other week for 3 days and tried all the modes and it felt just as fast in EcoPro, once you ignore the extended/different throttle characteristic. EcoPro is partly designed to encourage a smooth and therefore more economical driving style. HighlandPete |

In fact, I find I get more "pull" out of Eco pro than in sport mode(!) for say 0 to 60. Just floor it. Same when taking over another car, drop /2/ gears and floor it, and the engine is definitely not lagging then!
The 'lag' is only on the first part of the accelerator curve, when driving 'gently'.

I don't mind eco pro... just press the go pedal a little harder and the car accelerates OK. Press the pedal quickly and the car scoots.
I like the short shifting nature of eco pro too since the the engine has enough torque to pull well even when short shifting.

I use Eco Pro only when I'm cruising on freeways. I find it weak that's why I'm using comfort most of time & sport on DS mode whenver I needed power when merging or overtaking.

I was sceptical about the eco pro, but i find myself using it often when driving in my neighborhood in speeds of 30 to 50 kmh, due to the fact it runs lower on gears and dont gear down as often as when not in ecp pro. I like that, maby because i have the 2.0D.
Other engines may behave differently for what i know.
