Only good thing about the X4 is it is available while the Porsche has a waiting list.

The Porsche is absolutely not simply a "re-skinned" SQ5.

Porsche are selling more SUV than sportscar these days, so i guess it's a SUV specialist/Brand, not a sportscar brand!
The chassi is coming from a Audi Q5, the engine as well.
To me, that makes it less special than a "true" Porsche.
It's basicly coming as one of the VAG brands these days, oh well.
Before the test i thought the macan would be even better, seeing the interiour with a zillion buttons, the X4 doesn't look as bad - as it does next to something decent.
The X4/X3 interiour are so dated, but it looks more clean and simple to use than the Porsche. I want neither, but i like the fact that BMW have some serious competition in Porsche. The current lineup with F15 and F25 isn't very impressive imo.

So much hate lol. Cayenne Turbo is amazing but the X5M is no slouch.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...son/specs.html

http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...mw-x5-m-page-5

Performance wise, the Macan may be superior but not by much. Besides, they were comparing diesels here. Let's take a breath and put the Kool-Aid down...or at least give me some! It would help me figure out how the Macan is cheaper modified Audi Q5.

I'd take a Macan Turbo over a X4 35i/40i until that G02 X4M rolls out...or a Macan Turbo S...or a Lamborghini Urus...

I've always said that BMW needs to rethink its SUV design regarding driving dynamics if it wants to stay ahead of competition. This is especially true for BMW M SUVs since Porsches are dinamically superior. I want a BMW drifting SUV! If Porsche can do it BMW should too! BMW wake up!

I'd take the xDrive Car any day.

Why do you think it's faster than the P-Car?

That X4 needs bigger wheels/tires.

This is probably one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever heard in my life.

But can't you say that about any car? People buy car X because they can't afford car Y? People buy a 325d because they can't afford a real BMW, an M3? To me, that is just a lame/negative way of thinking.

This is a bit of a farse- starting price, sure. But driving dynamics not withstanding, the BMW offers much better tech (HUD, LEDs, etc.) and is less $$ fully loaded.

I saw one in person and I had to double-take that I wasn't looking at a MB G45. It's much smaller than an Q5- perhaps too small.

The X4 it's the same thing compared to an X6, but it look even worse...
Excuse me!
I chose an 2013 X3 M-Sports against an 2013 X5 due to size. The X3 price back then was a little bit higher than the X5. I was also looking at the Cayenne but the size was the main thing for me. Now I have the Macan Turbo when I traded-in my X3. Don't make some blanket statements!

X4 MSRP price may be higher than the Macan MSRP price. But with incentives and deals, X4 will be cheaper than the Macan. There is almost no discount for a Macan plus the waiting period is long.

But I still can't stand the look of the M-Sport pack for the new X4 - X-Line is way better looking at might actually give the Porsche a run for it's money look wise.

Fabulous cars both of them!

Are you saying you can justify Porsche making the. Macan but not BMW offering the X4?

#makes no sense

At the very least BMW is going up against the competition, not to mention BMW created the SAV segment.

Don't take it personal.

The only thing that person really said was. " I hate SUVs".

Pretty amazing that you are even daring to compare a car vs an SAV/SUV. That either says a lot for the segment or it say a lot about you !

Even if X4 performs better in any categories, I'd take Macan.

I am biased.

Has anyone noticed that when "video dude" takes the X4 on the dirt road and pushes what he calls the "off-road" button, he actually pushes the "hill decent"?!?

Video dude needed to push the "off-road" button to hit that puddle hard!

It shares some parts, but everything you see, everything in the powertrain, and everything in the suspension is pure Porsche. Absolutely no badge engineering happening there - just some sensible platform use that, let's be honest, makes the Macan a lot more attractively priced than we thought it would be.

The X4 looks better in person than it does in pictures, like most current BMW models. Still, it seems like a bit of a missed opportunity. It doesn't quite exude "badass" the way the X6 does. It needs larger wheels and, to my eyes, slightly wider axle design. The tires need to be the widest visual component of the car. I'm not sure the character line on the rear hip works so well, and they did the same thing on the redesigned X6.

In sum, these two cars are probably more similar than different in terms of real-world driving. The Macan looks substantially cooler than one would expect, and the X4 looks less cool than it should. People will pan the BMW interior because it looks a little "2010" and praise the Porsche interior, but anyone seeing each for the first time would agree that the BMW interior is nicer.

MSRPs are surprisingly similar, yet BMW's astoundingly good leasing program, plus the (probable) lower demand for the X4 compared to the Macan, will combine to make it much less expensive to drive an X4. Porsche will sell as many Macans as they can build, and it will be a total success for them.
