Did anyone run these 18" Michellin tires last winter?
I'm starting to look at snow tires and saw these on tire rack. I saw that people ran the Pirelli Sotozero's. If you did run the Michellin's, how was the ride? They are rated a performance winter/snow.

In Finnish car magazines and winter tyre tests usually these three are the best:
Nokian Continental (ex. Gislaved) Michelin So I guess if you take any of those as snow tyres, they are at least good. Of course I would recommend Nokian tyres which are usually the winners (and Finnish) but choosing Michelin or Continental is not bad idea either. Upcoming winter tests for tyres are not yet published, I can post the results on the forum when they are published. |

The 18" Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 ZP's are the winter tire I use on my 2011 X3 35i here in Nebraska. I'm very happy with them. Their ride is just fine -- no discernible difference from the stock Pirelli P7 all-seasons (which I've found to be very good tire). On dry pavement, the PA2's preserve the X3's excellent handling, so they're a perfect choice if you have mostly clear roads in the winter with occasional snow storms.
During a 10" snow fall last winter I took them out on unplowed, hilly streets and they were a champ. They're not as good on ice as a more aggressive winter tire, but that's so they can perform better on dry or wet pavement. |

I was looking at the Nokian website briefly but didn't see 245/50R18 size listed. BeeMdblU what Nokian model did you use and what was the size? Thanks. |

I had 3 sets of the all season non-run flats on non-BMW's. There were great. I did not get the dedicated winters Hakkapeliitta. |

I used the BMW winter wheel and tire package fitted with Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero Serie II tires.
In my opinion the Pirelli tires were about equal to a set of good all season tires... not much better. When the Pireliis are used up I'll likely go to Blizzaks.

I think the Sotozero's haven't gotten great reviews here so that's why I'm thinking of either Nokian or Michellin. The Michellin Alpin PA2 seems to be more of a performance/winter tire than the Blizzak. Not sure if the Blizzaks can be had as RFT though. Still not sure which way I'm going to go on that one..RTF or not. I don't know much about the Nokian's but they seem to have a good reputation as a winter tire.

Normal winter day in the country of Nokian (and Nokia), the video is from my car (X3): See how all cars are driving normally, not getting stuck anywhere, even RWD and FWD cars. It is because they all have dedicated winter tyres, most of them have Nokians. We do not have "snow days" in here, never. Not even at the airport: disclaimer: I am not saying there aren't places with even worse conditions during winter. Last edited by Rodion; 08-28-2013 at 02:15 AM.. |

Having a non-RFT is a possibility. still have time to think about it. I have AAA but probably would increase my plan.
