Service reminder doesn't count down

Hi,

On my 2014 X3, since I got it as an used car 2 months ago and drove it from 26000 to 28000 miles, the service reminder always say service in 3100 miles. Any idea why?

Depends on the service, if you go deeper in to the iDrive menu it will tell you specifically what service needs to be carried out. Oil, brake fluid, etc.

I am talking about the reminder showed up when you start the vehicle. Doesn't count down.

Depends on driving style and oil condition.
It doesnt count down mile by mile but will change after some time.
Ive even seen them go up due to a change in driver of the car.

Just drop off my car. The service adviser saw the screen said oil change is due on 9/2018. His response is my last oil change was 9/2016. His face looks surprised. Looks like I am the first customer has this issue.

The dealer said that there were something wrong on the brake service reminder. They reset it. But they said oil change should be done by every 15,000 miles or 2 years. Am I missing something? Isn't it supposed to be every year? Do you guys really change oil every 2 years?

hoho, yes it is a new world - long life oils last 2 years or 15.000 miles - at least.

It lasts for many years. BMW are being very conservative, giving 2 years.
