anyone purchased a dealer demo unit?
Local dealer has one of the 1st production 3.5i F25 units on their lot. Loaded with HUD, premium hifi, sirius, premium, convenience, cold weather, nav, and sport package. MRSP 54,650. production date 11/2010 mileage = 300 or 400
Has anyone purchased one of these early units? Any issues? with over 300 miles and it being the shop demo, I am wondering how much I can purchase for? invoice? invoice minus something? any thoughts? |

I honestly would never purchase a dealer demo car. When you test drive a car do you treat it as you would your own car? The car hasn't had it's full break in period and people probably have been doing everything that's not supposed to be done until the break in period is over.

Yeah I wouldn't purchase a demo either, people who test drive the car usually don't take very good care of it and the same goes for leased cars, I sure beat the hell out of mine. At most they'll probably give you $1-2k off of whatever discount you can get off of the msrp so the small discount doesn't justify neglecting the car during the break in period.

One item I found out the hard way is that the vehicle warranty starts with the inservice day as a demo, not when you buy the vehicle. Sales guy from Land Rover swore it had the full warranty when I bought it, very surprised (not really) when I needed repairs at the four year mark and the coverage ran out six months prior. LandRover never again.

I have bought an ex demo in the past. But that was a mini and around £25k cheaper than the X3 I have on order. That said the X3 I am getting has been sat I'm a dealer showroom (inside) for 4 months and they can release it to me the first week of May.
I got a good deal on my mini and was happy with it. It is true about the warranty already having run so need to watch that. I would buy an ex demo again. But I would not for an expensive car like the X3. Especially in the US where wait times are not that bad. I needed mine this month otherwise I would have been getting a different car hence the dealer model I purchased. I have visually checked it over thoroughly and simply there was not a mark on it so I am happy. |
