I think I'm in the same boat, I have a new LCI X3 M Sport (64 plate) having previously owned the a pre-LCI X3 M Sport (11 plate).

I had a set of winter wheels (18" rims) that the dealer had in storage.
I bought both cars from the same dealer and they assured me, that the stored wheels would be fully compatible with my new car..

It was only when I took the car last week to the dealership to fit the winter wheels, they told me of the problem.

They suggested buying an entirely new set for another 2K +..

I was pretty annoyed, there was talk of it being a valve issue because of the new RDS pressure sensors and it sounded like they could initially swap the valves, or I assumed at most the tyres, but they have said for RDS to work, I will need a brand new set of wheels..

They have never mentioned a 'kit' that could convert my old wheels.

Do you think it is just because they don't know about it? (I will speak to them today about it)
Or could there be some reason in my setup why a kit conversion wouldn't work? Or is there some disadvantage going down the kit route?

Thanks in advance.
The wheel set that you have is absolutely fine and will fit your new car

To stop the sensors going off in the car you will need to change the valves over to the new type.

This is perfectly possible and Bmw currently charge about £340 for four valves

There are a number of aftermarket ones around for considerably less I believe

I discussed this with my dealer parts dept .. By all means give them a ring it's bowker in Blackburn

He did say that he expects the price to drop though as a number of people are in the same position as you and are complaining it seems

I went out and bought a set on his advice ..

I think you'll get the same answer from perrygun as he has done the same

What is it with BMW and BL***Y WHEELS! When ordering my replacement I specifically asked if my winter wheels would fit the LCI. Have had no mention of any issues. Looks like there is a conversation to be had!

Spoke to my dealer earlier and they can after all replace the valves and sensors, there's not "kit" available for cars build after March 2014 (mine was built in June), but the parts can still be ordered individually.

It's up to them if they keep changing the technology on wheels, but in my option BMW should:

a) Make sure their sale staff know what they're talking about, have them fully briefed on what compatibility issues there will be to forewarn customs.
I specifically asked them (repeatedly) to make sure they were fully compatible. They said they were - and they are not.

b) If you had a BMW and you've bought another from them, the least they could do is pay for the upgrade - a trivial amount of money compared to the money you've spent with them.
A small price (for them) to pay to avoid the bad will toward them for this mess.

I looked at an X4 and was told my Winter wheels will fit after a mod - which they would do in the deal. - Still thinking about it but they seemed sure at the time. (Local dealer is Ocean)

that's not bad, but...

- is it plus VAT?

- do the TPMS sensors need coding to the car?

If it's £245 all-in I'll probably get a set and add them to the winters when I get the colour changed in the spring.

@Andy_o

If you're going to find out the details, can you post (or PM) them please, I'm interested if they're that cheap. I haven't put the winters on yet and might still have time to pick up a set and get one of the local tyre places to pop some new valves in

Thanks

Also be worth finding out if the TPMS sensors need to be coded to the car as, if they do, it makes it more of a faff to get them working.
