Online Information Services??

So I went to the BMW site today and saw you can build the 2013's now. I noticed under the tech package it now lists "Online Information Services." Is this the online services offered in the UK but not the US to allow weather, news, etc? I asked the dealer about this when I got my 2012 and he said it wasn't available - think since the 2013 has it we can now get it?

From my understand it is based on BMW Assist and not the iDrive so it should work now (maybe)??

I have this feature on my 2012 X3 28i, mine was one of the first 2012's, it does weather, and when I need fuel, it can also search for the closest gas station, and also displays the price. I am just getting used to using the voice commands. I was a little upset when I saw that the "lane departure" stuff was printed on my instrument cluster, but was not an available feature until the 2013 Model year.... best of luck

That was also listed in 2012. I have screen shots of the old stuff still and there was no changes in the tech package.

I was told by the dealer that just gives me the concierge. In the USA no Google search, weather or stocks yet. Time for another call I guess.

I think it wasn't included for those of us that bought 2011's, but for the 12's and 13's it is now bundled in. Bet we will have to pay extra for it if we want it.

It was for the 2011's. I had it. Didn't renew. Here's the web page link and main contents below. Wasn't able to copy and paste them when I did the earlier post. Yelp showed up later, as well. Not sure why it's not listed here.

I know it was there for us for the $199 package, but it looks like for the 2012's and 13's it's included in their purchase price. Those with 2011's would have to pay the $199 fee for it (which I personally don't think is worth it).

Def was not in my purchase price. They are charging me $199 and saying that they do the search and verbally tell me the weather. It won't be on my screen in the US. This makes no sense. I have later 2012.

I have a 2012 that I picked up earlier this year and I have the tech package and you know what - the BMW Online was not activated when I had the car. I had forgotten that it was listed as included in the tech package so I didn't think anything of it. I called BMW Assist they told me that all of that was part of the convenience package plus the concierge and the Google Maps send to car. I ended up ordering it knowing that I could cancel and get the pro-rated value back - but what I do really like about it is that I can ask them to send a location to my nav while I'm driving so I don't have to fumble with the controls. However, I wonder if I wasn't ripped off b/c all that online stuff was supposed to be included? Or at least that's what it seems like it's supposed to be.

Does anyone have the BMW Online services (gas prices, news, yelp, etc.) that did NOT have to order the convenience package at $199/yr?

See I'm getting more and more confused here. There are a few different packages here:

BMW Assist?: Give you the remote unlock, send from Google Maps and the basics. FREE with all cars.

BMW Assist Convenience Plan: Give you access to the BMW operating under the same assist button and he/she will tell you traffic, directions weather, and run searches for you. $199/yr (http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...anLanding.aspx)

BMW Online: What I want, give me access to see weather, gas prices, stocks, and run my own Google search from inside the car. To my knowledge not available in the US. Though what started this initial post and now listed on the BMW website.

In the US, BMW Convenience Plan includes access to see weather, gas prices, stocks, and run my own Google search from inside the car. Have this now, wont be renewing as didn't find it useful enough for 199/yr, local search is too slow because in the US the connection to the internet is using GPRS technology (much slower than 3G/4G)

I bought my X3 about 3 weeks ago. I am very upset to find out that the "Online information Services" is not free, but the "Real time traffic information" is! It is very confusing. My sales told me it is free for the 1st 4 years. I called up SOS few times and they told me the same $199 thing. So, I called BMW's 800-831-1117. I talked to a rep and she told me that she thought it should be free!
I think it is time we should file a complain to BMW...
