HK Premium Sound
Been shopping around online to purchase my first X3 and one dealer has the Monroney label available to view on their site. It is not a photo of the original, just an electronic version. The vehicle in question is a 2014 X3 xDrive35i. Anyhow, it lists in the options the [677] Premium Hi Fi System $875 which I verified against the 2014 Pricing Guide. How am I able to verify this is actually installed and not the standard system? Didn't they put the Harmon Kardon branding on the front speaker door grilles or am I mistaken?

Get the car's VIN number and plug into online 'decoder', such as this https://decoder.bvzine.com/
You'll get a detailed listing of every option and it's associated BMW designation code. Good luck/Bill ps- see sample...PDF attached for my car |

My X3 has option 676, which is labeled "Hi-fi sound system" at no charge. I'm not sure what option code 677 is. If it's $875, it might be the HK system, but I don't know.
Yes, the tweeter grills in the top of the door will say harman/kardon. |

BMW typically has 3 different levels of sound systems in their cars worldwide.US market cars only have the 2 top tiers; Hi Fi (S676A) and Top Hi Fi (DSP S677A, HK S688A). The Top Hi Fi in the F25 uses the same audio source units, a 7.2 speaker arrangement with the additional 2 in the D pillar as pictured above, and an amp to match. 2014 would have the DSP system based on the ordering guide.
And to verify, just look for speakers in the D pillar. |
