What does "in production" really mean?
The dealer told me my wife's X3 is in production week 33. Does that mean actually on the line, or does that mean spec is frozen, or what?
Typically how long is the "in production" phase: 1 week, 2 weeks? What is typical delivery time from end of production to midwest/Chicago? I'm guessing a week if you catch the truck leaving the day after production. Is there a detailed Sticky FAQ on all this? MTIA |

That means it is on the line. The spec will be frozen right before that. There are specific production codes that you dealer can see. I believe it takes 40 work hours to produce an x3. So week 33 means at some point that week your car will actually go into production.

When it starts to say that, it means that your car specs have been submitted and is in line for production. When you call the 1-800 number, it says "Your vehicle is in production, with an estimated completion date of _____." Then a few days later it will say "Your vehicle is in the Body Shop, with an estimated completion date of _____." Then it ill go to Paint, assembly, released to carrier, awaiting transportation, and in transit. Good luck with your order!
