order timing
Hi-just wondering how long on average most are seeing from time of deposit to time your vehicle is given a production slot. I put my deposit down a week ago and so far, nothing...its a smaller dealer, so I expect that has something to do with it, but just don't want to have this drag on...turning in my leased car in 2 weeks so will be a 1 car family for a while already-don't need that to be too long...
Thanks- |

I ordered mine on December 27th, 2010. Production was finished on February 15th, 2011. It was allegedly shipped out on February 22. Still waiting on delivery to the BMW dealer in Oklahoma City. Hopefully not much longer to wait...8 weeks so far.

The average time will be useless knowledge since it all has to do with dealership allocation. I ordered mine on Dec 5th and it went into production on Feb 9th. Some people's cars go into production within a week.

Edit: VPC (Oxnard, CA.) 3/10 per dealer.

update-2 weeks later and my dealer still doesn't even have allocation, let alone a build date, so I am basically in no man's land...stopped in at a different dealer and they have allocation for late March on a 35i but didn't want to deal at all-grrrrr....
My current lease vehicle is due to be turned in next Friday! I knew I was going to be a 1 car family for a while, but not having a clue asto how long may force me to look at other options.. Any thoughts/suggestions?? On the bright side, these last 2 weeks have resulted in me adding the premium stereo and DHP, so if this thing ever gets built, it will definately be a baaaad ride! |

How do you know your specific build date? Mine was just ordered Friday, and I got a production number. Logged into "MY BMW" to track production, and I'm all ready in the system, but it just says they are still processing my order. My dealer says it could arrive any time between March 25-April 25th. I am on the east coast so I don't know if that speeds things up.

Ordered mine 3-2-11, went into production 3-6-11. I was shocked it was less than a week from order to build. Although my allocation was being ordered the day I put my $500 down for one. I got the last one on the allocation.

I heard some people talk about the dealer allocation, and how that determines production dates. But how? Are you saying the higher the dealer allocation the quicker their order gets filled? Mine was ordered the first day that our dealers March allocation became available (3/4). They are not a huge volume dealer by any means, but do all BMW sales for Buffalo and most of Western New York. |

Ordered mine on 1/26 went into production on 2/14 and delivered on 2/26. It took exactly what my dealer said it was going to take. Very happy with the timing and even happier with the car worth the wait, however long that wait becomes

I am praying for that time frame, but my dealer gave me a full month window so who knows. Don't think I would be this obsessed if you couldn't follow the progress online. Keep checking, hoping to see it move to stage 1.

Called BMW 1-800 number, and my X3 is in production with a projected completion date of 3/21. Considering the order was put in on 3/4 I think that is pretty good!

Another update-ITS ON THE CARRIER AS OF THIS AFTERNOON!!
Actually got it out a full 2 weeks faster than I had expected when it first got scheduled-had a build week of 4-4! Dealer now expecting to recieve it Wednesday, keys in hand by Thursday or Friday at the latest! So all told just over a month from deposit date! its a good thing too as I have become more and more obsessed with this whole process over the last few weeks..insanity was getting very near.. |

Sorry mate-didn't mean to rub it in...the wait you have to contend with sure is awful-I feel for you. if its any consolation, I was in Birmingham in January on business and rode w/ an associate in his new 5 series diesel from there to Swansea, Wales for meetings-my first real extended time in a BMW ever...convinced me to order this... no, when I read that, it isn't much consolation....sorry... |
