Here is the diagnose result on the X3:
Codes: 14202 14302 140402 140502 140602 (Misfire codes) Scanned the vehicle and codes for misfires 1-6 cylinders. Replace six spark plugs. I was told I am probably the only one on earth experienced this (six spark plugs need replaced with 1399km on it, only had the car for 24 days). |

All BMWs are conceived, designed, and engineered in Germany at BMW AG. BMW NA receives these concepts and designs and considers them for the American market at headquarters in California, New Jersey, and South Carolina. So get your facts straight. The only thing that's American about BMWs that are built in Spartanburg, South Carolina is the assembly process of your fabulous vehicle with the German-made parts and the hands that guide the machines (which are unfeeling objects and therefore do not identify with any race or nationality) as the car moves down the assembly line. These people are genuine, well-paid factory workers and executives alike. There are many people who came from Germany to live and work in Spartanburg and oversee each and every single process that goes into building each X3. Do not undermine the credibility and the decency of hard working Americans. Not all of us are lazy--certainly not the ones who are on this forum who have worked hard enough to afford a BMW. You don't hear me complaining about my discomfort with sharing a continent with Canadians because all you guys do is sit around and poke holes in maple trees and adorn your homes with leaves, because 1: that is silly and childish, 2: I wouldn't dare claim any part of that sentence to be my personal belief because none of it is true, and 3: I'm responsible enough to know when not to talk out of my ass. And if you can't behave like a responsible, impartial, and forgiving adult--especially in regard to people you have never met and probably know nothing about--then maybe you should reevaluate whether such a special purchase is really right for you. I agree completely with Juddholland. Besides, there are no warranties that german-made BMW will not have any failures. I've heard stories of the 7 series (which is made in Germany and BMW flagship) being declared a lemon, just go over to the 7 forum and search for "lemon".

Replacing plugs is a standard first response when they haven't a clue what to do.

I am glad to see some real inputs from the customers.
I throught the same about my car. First when I was told there is only one spark plug is malfunction, I couldn't believe it fully as the car should not shake that much. When I had the report in front of me, there are five misfires in the engine. So they replaced all six spark plugs. I didn't get to see what the plugs were like, but I still believe it is not a coincident that all five spark plugs failed at the same time. Take a probability count what is the chance that happens (50% x 50% x 50% x 50% x 50% = 0.03% given each plug fails at a 50% ratio)? It is gonna be nearly impossible. So it must be a computer error, or some sort (I am not a electrical engineer or mechanical engineer). At this point they can not tell me what caused it. If I am not the first one experience this, we should speak up so BMW can make a recall on that, maybe it will safe some life this time. |
