Reflection in a rear window.

Now that we've had our 2013 X3 for a month I must say that I am completely happy with it. OK, there is one thing. Have you noticed that when the sun is at just the right angle the metal strips on the floor at the back of the cargo area reflects in the rear window?
Has anyone found a cure?
I was thinking of wrapping them with a matte finished carbon fiber vinyl.

Ya, it doesn't help much. The back end of the cover hangs down. It does not seal with the hatch.
But thanks for asking. I can see how someone could miss that.

It sounds like you need a new cover.

There is quite a gap at the rear of mine and the other one on the estate I live near shows a similar gap.

Before you go to any expense, could I suggest you post a photograph showing how much it hangs down?

I went down to the BMW dealer and looked at a couple of new X3's. They all exhibit the same thing as mine. I think it's a feature of having an M-Sport with the aluminum sill plates.
I have ordered purple (Wife's favorite color.) carbon fiber vinyl wrap to cover the sill plates. We'll see how it works.

I have the M-Sport and aluminum sill plates, but I have never had a reflection in the rear window. However, we don't have nearly as much sunshine as you!

You will get used to seeing the reflection. I have a red blanket I keep in the back, and i store it folded to cover the aluminum scuff plates. I still see the blanket's reflection in the glass occasionally.

I had not until today travelling down the M4 towards south Wales. It was the first time I noticed it. There again it is the UK's summer this week. Perhaps it will last longer than 2 days.

Gee. We have been over 100F as a high temp for most of the last 2 weeks. The rest of this week is forecast as, Tuesday 106, 107, 101, and 101 on Friday. Oh but it's a dry heat.

Aghhh that is in old money. We use the new stuff called Centigrade. It is due to reach around 33 degrees Centigrade in the next few days in southern England where I live.

Thirty three degrees (33 C) = 91.4 degrees Fahrenheit. This is not too hot if it is dry but the humidity is expected to be very high, setting off thunderstorms.

Anyway, back on track. Now I have noticed the reflections in the back of the car, I have now got a blanket covering the plates.

The reason I have never noticed the reflection is I have always had a boot liner. Wouldnt be without one.

Fine if you do not have the optional Storage Package. I do have it and have found it is one of the most useful additional packages to the vehicle. It is really good (not just handy) for lashing stuff down using bungee cords and stopping items sliding around.

The "Storage Package" adds practical extras such as:

Two lashing rails (with 4 sliding lashing eyes) that run the length of the rear cargo area. With multifunction hooks, storage net and additional lighting.

Having a boot liner would cover these up and be a waste of time and would negate the usefulness of the package.

In this situation, the car blanket solution makes a lot more sense.

There is, of course, the ultimate solution for the reflection, but I don`t dare to suggest that....not after suggesting that there are pollution coming in from southwest - on the other hand we are about to get a high pressure in from the UK

I have been in a sandstorm at 114 F in Death Valley - that`s tough.

I have the reflection too and have tint. I've thought about covering them in vinyl.
