Hey guys, unfortunately for me I got into an accident last night. I rear ended a car in front of me. The body shop I deal with is closed for 2 weeks, but I'm just concerned because I have 2 wires dangling from the bumper and I am not sure they are weather proof. It's probably for the park assist.

But does anyone know if I am safe to drive the car if it rains if they are in the open? I'll post pics and maybe someone can offer advice. On the first pic, you can see the wires a bit better, they are on the right and left part of the bumper.

Pics aren't showing up. Sorry about the accident - does your dealer have a recommendation for another body shop? Could you cover the wires in a plastic bag and tape it out of sight until it gets fixed?

just reposted the pics, I guess I could use like a saran wrap and tape to cover the wires.

Ouch - that doesn't look too bad though. Looks like you will be getting a new bumper.

I'm sorry that happened. I think you should be fine. The bumper is just painted flex-plastic so it's nowhere near as expensive as a body panel.

I would need 3 parts. The top of the hood, right where the grill is, is bent in and needs to be repainted. The actual mid bumper is dented on the right, there is a indent you can kind of see on the 2nd pic. Also some random other dents on the mid (non plastic bumpber). Then I'll need a new piece of black, I think some of the connections that attach it to the bumper are broken.

I guess I'm going to be working the next 2 weeks trying to pay this off...

I'm going to use electrical tape to cover the wires. Think that would be the best thing.

Oh shit I hadn't realized. I need to take a closer look at those pics. Life happens.. :/ You can only learn from it. Good luck and I hope you get a good deal on the repair.

You should be able to cover any bare wire or open connectors with electrical tape. As you deduced, those are the wires for (2) of the (4) front ultrasonic distance sensors in the bumper cover. Your main concern should be to be sure that the wires can't short out to any bare metal. If the cut ends are taped, you should have no problems. If the sensors were contacted in the collision, they may have been damaged and may require replacement.

Good luck and hope you don't have too long a wait for the replacement parts. Even if your preferred body shop is currently closed, you may want to contact your BMW dealer to get a head start on the parts ordering process.

Agree. Just tape over the ends and then maybe tape them up out of sight, and you'll be fine.

Very sorry to hear of the accident. don't worry, she'll be good as new again.

well I had to claim this on insurance. So the total cost of damages were $6200 just on my car, off an 8-10km bump in with a GM suv. The other damage to the trunk of the other vehicle was $350 for 2 bumps to take out and repaint that area.

I never knew how poorly made the front of our cars are, the hood, pushed in very very slightly but that caused both brackets for the headlights to break. And each one is $1700.

I really can't believe how weak the front of our cars are, and the fact that there is no way to repair a broken headlight bracket. Granted I don't want to get into accidents, but they do happen and at under 10km an hour to do that much damage is a bit crazy.

Wow, I wouldn't have imagined it would be that much from the pics!

If the wires are nicked or cut I would wrap them in electrical tape. Sorry about your accident and good luck with the repair.
