How 'bout we all use litres/100kms so we can compare apples to apples?
My car is getting 10.3L/100kms now... What's that? 22.x mpg us or 27.x imp. Mpg.

Out of interest/'fun' I occasionally try to get the best MPG possible, by driving like an undertaker in Eco mode. I can get 45+ Mpg by being very careful. BUT! What's the point driving an SUV ... SPORTS Utility Vehicle, and fannying around trying to save a few quid on diesel. I spend so much on the car finance each month that the MPG does not make a significant dent on the overall cost. If I was commuting 20,000+ miles a year I would probably be driving a different car. PS is fannying a rude word in the USA? http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...nnying%20about |

Re. fannying around, there is no fannying around if you're using cruise control. My best so far has been 32.7 mpg but then I only have 5K on it - and I was trying for good mileage using eco pro and cruise.

Good economy, with power when required. So upcoming drive to France= 1500 mile round trip 50mph @ 53 mpg= 28.3 Imp Gal = 128.5 litres = £180 (£1.40p diesel litre) 70mph @ 37 mpg= 40.5 Imp Gal = 183.9 litres = £257 BUT it's 30 hours driving Vs 21.4 hours. I'll end up driving at 85mph |

Hi all,
I am approaching the end of my first full tank in the X3 20d and thought I would post my observations regarding economy..... Eco-pro the whole time and climate in auto set to 22C. With mainly stop/start city driving at upto 60km/h and some freeway driving up to 100km/h, the car achieved 6.8L/100km average. According to the on-board computer info I am on target to get about 960kms from this tank (without sucking the tank dry). As an experiment, I am super happy with the results, can't wait to see what it does on a long drive on the open road. |

Efficiency (and perceived power) of the engine seems to go up pretty sharply in the first 2k miles or so. I'm reaching 2.5k miles, and my average commute (mostly slow m25) was 46mpg. But then I decided I had enough bedding in the engine and I'm playing with sport mode ;-)

500 Miles on my 3.0d and MPG showing as 34.5 - mostly short journeys. Troggy1969 - how many miles do you have on your car? Just wondered how much my MPG will improve.

hehe, I missed this post but you are so right... although I prefer my weight in kg as it sounds much better.
Many of our road allowances are 20m or 66ft or one chain or four rods... Quote:

Do you all just report consumption you have on the iDrive or do you calculate it by using real consumption on the gas station and GPS mileage?
My imaginary best average consumption with full tank was 5,70 l/100km and 51km/h. However, using the real consumed gasoline and real traveled distance the average consumption was 6,16 l/100km. I have noticed that on summer tyres I have to add about 0,4 l/100km to the iDrive consumption and with winter tyres even more, to get the real consumption. My imaginary best average consumption with reasonable distance (30 km suburban drive with intersections and traffic and traffic lights) was 4,7 l/100km. I have 2.0d with manual gearbox. |

Just been out for a drive in my 3.0d M-sport - only did a short five miles on the motorway and averaged 49.4 MPG from cold in ECO mode. I reset the trip computer mid way through the drive and it was registering 54.3MPG at one point and settled at 52.4 MPG. Its 2.0C here so very cold so not bad. I have only had the car a week and it has done 484 miles so far.
Yes - short trips around town really do make a difference! Not bad though for a car this size. __________________________________________________ 2013 X3 M-sport Deep Sea Blue, Black Leather, Xenons, DIRAC Professional Sound sytem, Pro Nav, 19" Wheels, Tinted windows, Folding Mirrors, PDC, ASS, DAB Radio, Aluminium trim inc roof bars |

My figures match sfax - we did 1000 miles at 70mph and got 40mpg, which give that included a 130mph burst on an autobahn we were very pleased.
We try and sit around 80mph to get the near 40mph on our runs up the M5. Have never got over 45mpg (done on a 90min run at 70mph) - will try the 60mph figures if I can be patient..lol

You can easily match the official combined mpg that BMW advertise as follows:
1. Replace yourself (the driver) with a jockey weighing no more than 8 stone and kick out all other pasengers 2. Remove every option, in particular the heavy ones 3. Replace wheels and tyres with the 17" non-RFT low rolling resistance tyres. Don't carry a spare 4. Have 1/4 tank of fuel or less, switch off aircon, close all windows and sunroof 5. Drive like Miss Daisy (ask the jockey to drive like Miss Daisy if you're not a jockey)

Always driving downhill helps a lot too. That and always trying to have the wind at the back of the car.
