F25er, the accelerator is a safety feature... no question about that.
Justifying one engine over another because of acceleration might be a stretch |

Fryguy29, no kidding we do get hosed... don't get me started with the "included" power lift-gate on the US models... it's only available in conjunction with a $4000 option in Canada.

Disagree..I don't think it's exactly one or the other...it's a combination of a lot of things. For mostly the U.S. market the 35i is not that much more $$ than a 28i when you start adding in the packages so there is a price point there that some people with the extra cash see and leap for the 35i and people without the cash choose not to. Then there's the power of the engine..and sound ...and smoothness etc. Which are all subjective. Then there's a safety factor but that depends on the driver. I like a spirited vehicle something that can move when I need it to in case stupid people do stupid things and I have to avoid them quickly. I hate going come on come on come on when i mash the gas ..drives me nuts probably why I'm yet to buy something under 300 hp My point ...hmmm ...pick according to your needs and how you drive and the $$ you got...with a little sense thrown into the mix

Both engines are great and you really can't go wrong with either one. As mentioned before in the US the price difference between the two is only about $2500.

The turbo 4 is no slouch by any means. I will concede, it does sound like a diesel with little man syndrome, but in sport mode it absolutely flies. You really will be surprised thats its just a 4 banger moving you around so quickly.

I noticed that climbing some of the hills here in Seattle (some steep grades) where it climbs or maintains the speed without going over 2000rpm. The power curve is a whole other world compared to my 2003 325xi and will take some time to get used to it.

Seattle does indeed have some very hilly areas and it's very cool to go up them with speed and not even break 2000 rpm. |

Yay hill power! I am about to order my X3, and am still handwringing about 28i vs 35i. We live in very hilly bellevue, but most of my commute will be on the 405. We do plan some windy road trips, though, so I would love to keep hearing your impressions of the 28i !! thanks for all the sharing!!! |

Speaking of hills, I took my X3 28i (NA 6cyl) over the North Cascades highway last weekend and was pleasantly surprised with the performance at higher altitudes and on winding mountain roads.

Scheduled to pick-up the 28i next week via PCD. We drove the 35i and the 28i extensively for comparison. In anything close to normal driving situations it' hard to tell much difference. The 4 turbo deifinitely seems to out perform the older non-boosted 6. The torque cure is almost a flat line for the 4 and comes at relatively low rpms. I'm sure the 35i would greatly out perform the 28i on a track, but for most driving situations, we chose the 28i.
