2013 X3 Idrive black screen

1 year old this month. Started it up this morning and Idrive completely dead/ black screen. No nav, stereo, phone, etc. Tried rebooting but no such luck. Was planning on taking it in for service this week anyways...so will see if it's just a fuze or needs to be replaced

My wife has had this issue a bunch of times in the past 2 weeks. I drove the X3 2 days and of course it never happened, but she sent me a pic as proof lol. Shes also seen driver restraint failure also along with the black idrive. The TPMS system has also been going haywire, just took off the winter tires last night, I hope its not a sensor on one of those wheels. Setting up a service appointment today.

I was plagued with a random problem whereby the screen would remain blank on start-up. This would happen once or twice every week or two. The screen would come back on if I left the car and came back an hour or so later.
BMW refused to replace the screen until they could replicate the problem and the car was with the dealer for 3 weeks before it failed. A new screen was finally fitted! Hope you get yours sorted!

This happened to me right after I got a car wash. I opened the sunroof and saw lots of wet leaves and other gunk stuck in the tracks. It seems some water had somehow ended up near the fuse box, but strangely, it dried after about an hour and started working again.

I am not at all impressed with BMW Customer Service. With my direct experience as well as others writing their experiences.They wouldn't even give me a loaner when I had the oil changed.

Me: New wipers please.
BMW: "Sorry, it's been 330 days since we changed them last. Have to wait for 1 year."
Me: You're going to make me come back just to replace the wipers? You can't do it now during my oil change?
BMW: "Yes."

Lexus bent over backwards when I had my SC 430. Loaner with oil change? No problem.

BMW is not really a premium product...

Sure the vehicles perform well but owners are generally treated like inconveniences (based on my service experiences).

You will find out.. that the customer knows more about the ins and outs of how its vehicle works or supposed to work... than the service tech.. but then again, having owned all 4 German brand cars... in my experience.. VW has been the best experience for me.. in the Houston area at least.

Well, brought it into the BMW service department. Provided a loaner car (3 series sedan) and received an update from the service advisor who said that the iDrive is being replaced. So far, so good.

No. Actually never changed them. Rarely had the car out in the rain. Maybe 5 times in 7 years. I did get free touch up paint from the dealer who was servicing the car. And I didn't even buy the car there.

So my problem with driver restraint malfunction, black idrive, and TPMS malfunction was caused by a bad control module for TPMS I think it was ACSM maybe, that module was f'ing up the BUS for the other systems.

totally agree. the loaner here (waterloo, ON) is not even free. we need to pay 20 bucks a day plus gas. can you guys get free loaners?

Freehold BMW is giving me a free loaner (they are checking my hood. I think it has a bit more play/travel that it should even though it is flush with the front fenders) but i had to make an appointment 2 weeks in advance.

Here in BC I had to pay 31.00$ taxes included for the loaner. It change in August last year. Before I was getting it for free. I can also see the same with other dealerships with different makes of the cars.

Picked it up this afternoon. Entire CIC system was replaced (under warrantee, so no charge). Certainly didn't get stuck paying for the loaner car...and since it's 1year old, they changed the oil, replaced the front/rear wipers , and gave it a good wash...no kidding!
Overall, not thrilled that the system failed. But no complaints regarding the service department
