Personally, I'd never use a rooftop bike carrier, especially on a SUV. A hitch mount is way better and safer. Seen too many mishaps of people dropping the bike on the roof or hitting something overhead. Sorry, no experience with the carrier shown. What type of bike do you need to transport?

Trek Dual Sport hybrid. I hear you on high SUV roof and handling the bike. I had fork mount roof rack in old 5-Series sedan, it was secure and manageable.

The sedan is much lower and a fork mount is much more stable than wheel mount.

Here's the carrier for my mountain bike

Hitch it. Rooftop carrier is a pain to use. Sadly, hitch mount bike racks have appreciated in price by a lot.
