335is to X3 35i M-Sport
Well it's been a brutal past few months contemplating whether I will be keeping my 335is long term or whether it was just a fun car to drive for now. But thinking long term and starting a family soon, I needed to get rid of it sooner and get something more practical. The only way to ease the pain a little was to get a car that still looked sporty and is fun to drive.
Finally pulled the trigger a month ago and ordered a nearly fully loaded X3 35i. Options include the following: M-Sport package Premium package Exec package Technology package BMW apps 20 inch 310 wheels Red brown nevada leather Aluminum trim I used to drive a Lexus RX 300 long before so driving a SUV is nothing new but I have to say that the new X3 has REALLY come a long way. I hated the old X3 when I was test driving SUVs 5-6 years ago and the X5 doesn't do it for me in terms of looks and drive. If BMW did not come out with the M-Sport package on the new X3s, I'll admit I probably wouldn't have gotten this car. It just adds that much to the look of the car. Anyways, here are some quick photos I snapped at the dealership yesterday! |

The is is awesome, hopefully the X3 will be a worthy replacement. The 20s look great.
Come back to this thread after a few months and let us know how the transition goes. Obviously it will be much different, but I think a comparison would be interesting. |

I went from a 335i Vert to a 30D. The biggest adjustment I had to make was slowing down for corners, frequently I was arriving at the corner at Vmax for the corner! The X3 handles well but it's ultimate cornering speed is substantially lower than with the 335.
Oh yes, I seem to have one of the noisy X3s, wind noise from my very (roof up) was lower.

Initial impressions: The car drives very nice. The steering is a lot less stiff compared to the 335is and it's a bit nice for a car this size. It drives very well and it's very much like a car but rides higher.
The power is there and there's still a nice exhaust sound but not nearly as loud as the 335is. Obviously driving a SUV means slowing down more at a turn which is not a big deal. I feel the urge to drive fast is not as tempting as it always was in the sports car but that's not a bad thing. It makes for a more relaxing ride for the passengers and better on the fuel economy The one thing I still have to get used to is the braking. The brakes on the 335is were so awesome and I could stop at any point without much effort. Part of it is the extra weight on the X3 also. I definitely need to stop sooner or apply more pressure on the brake pedal in the X3 to stop in the same amount of time and distance. |
