Creaking seat?
Alrighty, I think this is the last minor issue hanging on to my car. My drivers' seat sounds like a spring is not isolated properly/attached right. I get a creaking/springy noise every single solitary time I move in my seat/go over a bump, ACCELERATE, turn, decelerate. With the stereo turned up this is, of course, no issue. Unfortunately, without it cranked the seat is just loud enough to really drive me nuts. Anybody have the same issue? You think there is anything I can open up and look for myself? Does the dealer have the ability to fix a seat or is it replaced as one unit?
Thanks in advance!

It is all about energy dissipation.
It will eventually stop squeaking and something else will take its place. IMHO, not worth having an tech hacking away at the source of the sound. Quote:

I've got the creaking drivers seat as well. Got the creak after about the 2nd week. Haven't had time to get the dealer to look at it yet. Only "quality/build" issue I've got so far after nearly 3 months and 5,000 km (3,000 miles).

Years ago I had a Citroen AX and had a can of silicone spray in the car at all time. Solved all the creaks that appeared weekly. Hope my X3 doesn't turn out the same!!!

Going to take it to the dealer soon but not sure if I should hint to them it needs some silicon spray. Or shall I let them investigate and see what they come up with? I guess another worry is, how often it needs to be applied? |

All my seats creak - in every car!
Nothing odd about seat creak. I am not that heavy (90kgs) but almost all the cars I have ever owned had creaks in the seats - VW Sharan, Volvo V70, Volvo C70, Mercedes C and E class, BMW 3 series. Usually starts about a month in and sometimes goes away for a bit.
Very annoying and I often find a really small adjustment of the seat helps. I am tall and usually have the seat set low for headroom. Just taking it off the bottom setting cured it. Good luck! |

I've owned Peugeots, Hondas and now I'm 100% BMW. This is the first instance for such creaks. To add to this thread, my weight is 66kg so it looks like seat creaks are not correlated to driver/passenger weight. I also own X1 with sport seats (no lumber support though) and no seat issues. But you have to admit, those X3 sport seats are so much better than X1 where they are firm. The seat springs in X3 are effective in giving you extra cushion from road imperfections, especially here in Oz. I just wish they would master the seat manufacturing process. And besides, shouldn't have they draw experience from similar seats in other cars, like X5, which is also build in US? |
