2200 in.. and BANG

Oh dear.. had a small accident the other night, someone decided a stop sign didn't apply to them and I was turning into a corner they pulled out into the mid section of the drivers side.

The damage didn't look too bad.. but its amazing how much damage comes out of a 5-10mph smash.. 2 new doors.. but the worse news is that the main frame of the car took an impact.. so what was minor, became a major repair in that they now need to remove that whole section of the frame and fit a new one, weld is back and then add 2 new doors.

Gutted.. just know it won't come back the same..

Wow, sorry to hear. I am surprised frame damage doesn't result in a totaled car...

Thats what I said to the assessor (hoping to get a new one rather than a repair) but he said that the frame is no longer a single piece, its made up for several sections that slide together, bolt and weld. Its the section that is damaged that will be removed. Its amazing, the intrusion into the frame can only be 3mm but he said once its done its done

You might want to talk with them about compensation for resale devaluation (if that's a word). Someone or a dealer will really ding you on that on the vehicle report...

Sorry to hear about the accident. Collision repair is way more advanced than it used to be, I hope it came out perfect.

Sorry to hear that's really bad news. Is it going to a BMW garage for repair?.

Resale not too bothered, its a lease so it will just go back at the end unless I want to keep it. I had planned to keep it.. but now I will see how it drives when I get it back, and if it isn't perfect I will be on the phone to the insurance.

Yes, made sure it was repaired by a BMW dealership approved place, the insurance tried to fob me off with one of theirs, but refused to use them. Just need to make sure they apply whatever paint protection rubbish they sold me back on to the stuff they replace.

One other minor annoyance, was on the way to get the assessment, SatNav took me on a merry route to get there, and at the end of the trip was this 6'6 road block to stop trucks using the road.. going through there kerbed one of the wheels, so that wrapped up the day great. They will repair that while its there..

I know.. thanks for the comments.. at least the insurance company are being very good so far, they even listed it as non fault from the outset, which from the damage is pretty clear anyway even though the other driver tried to say I cut the corner!

Sorry to hear of the smack - at least you have the advantage of the lease and the fact you don't own it - if the fix is not up to original standards.

Ouch! The problem with cars now a days is that they are made to crumble and absorb the shock so the compartment absorbs less. Minor accidents become large amounts of damage and cost.

I feel your pain. At least you got 2200 miles before it happened. I was only 8 days in to my new X3 30d M Sport and 800 kilometers a month ago when a learner driver on her first drive did the same thing. She drove straight through a roundabout without braking or steering (true) and went straight in to my front quarter panel and both doors. Broke the suspension on the front right wheel and did about $18,000 damage. Have taken it to the best BMW approved repairer in Melbourne, which is good, but after waiting 5 months for the car and then 8 days later BAM! and now I don't get it back till the second week of December and we go overseas for 3 weeks the week later!!! So, my friend in pain, I feel it too.......

Thats typical of BMW, not got any parts in stock, put it on "Back Order" wait and wait.
I hope something comes up soon.
