F25 X3 Overheating Warning Message

Hey all. I have a 2012 X3 35i and the other day I had an I drive warning about the car overheating and to drive cautiously, or something like that. It wouldn't let me accelerate and when I pulled over I got a different error stating the car had overheated. I got out, nothing was hot or steaming and the temp Guage was normal so I don't think it actually overheated. I haven't seen the error since but now the fan seems to come on full speed and then turn off and it does this frequently. Thoughts on what the culprit is?

Thermostat / waterpump issue, perhaps?

Yes, Thermostat Module or Waterpump, most likely the Thermostat Module. Both have been replaced on my '11, and both were costly, $600+.

Yes this is what I keep reading about, though curious about the fan if it's not in fact getting hot? luckily my X3 is still under full extended warranty until 2018 so shouldn't cost me a penny!

It's not getting hot, but the failing module is saying that it is, so the fan runs. If they determine that it's bad then specifically ask them to inspect the water pump too. Perhaps you can convince them to replace both at the same time.

don't want to hijack your thread, but does anyone know the cost of the extended warranty in the uk?
