better brakes?

Hi,

Changing from three 3-series coupe and sedans to a F25 X3, I feel like the brake is "weak" relatively on the F25. After about two weeks and 600 miles of driving, there were a couple of instances got to my nerves when it took longer to stop than I expected.

I like the "hard" stuff. The heavier steering and heavier brake pedals on my old Bimmers. Yes, I understand the car is way heavier than the last E90 with the same engine. I don't expect F25 to brake as good as the E90. So I'm thinking...

did anyone change anything and get good experience on brake feel or brake performance?

Fluid or pads?

Thanks
Will

Have to say that I have noticed exactly the same thing, I had a 335d coupe before the X3 and the braking performance seems to be poor on the X3. Always had a lot of confidence in braking systems on previous BMW's but don't have the same feeling in the X3. When you put your foot on the brake pedal there does not seem to be an immediate braking effect and seems to be much less feel to the pedal. Even when you stand on the pedal seems to take a long time to stop.
Obviously there is more weight to stop than in the coupe but would have expected braking system to be designed accordingly?
Not sure if there is is there the same problem on the X5 as I have not driven one.

Agreed. Brakes seem to be weaker compared to my 335. I think the main difference is the brake pads. I noticed the X3 does not have much brake dust compared to the 335, this to me means that BMW is using a different compound and not an aggressive one.

I think the best solution is change to more aggressive pads.

They don't grab until you're really deep into the pedal. Unfortunately it catches you off guard sometimes and you really have to go ALL ANCHORS when that happens.

When the car senses an emerency stop it applies max braking even if you aren't braking to the max. In Europe the brake lights flash too. I've not exerienced this but I believe it's what meant to happen.

Personally I would prefer the brakez to feel more positive in normal use.
