Almost 3 years in....
Its fast approaching 3 years since I took delivery of my 3.0MSport, and its probably been one of the best BMW's all round that I've owned in 18 years of BMW's.
I'm currently stuck in a dilema .. Sensible head says - pay the final finance and keep it, nothing wrong with it, its as good and has solid as the day I took delivery. Normal Matt head says - 3 years up, time to change.. if the facelifted X3 had been with the new interior then I would consider another one, especially if there was an X3 M50 So now I am considering an X5 M50 or returning to and M and getting the M5. I've not driven either, so I need to drive them both.. I have a feeling that the X5 is just going to be too big for the roads I drive, but I just love the look of it, and the M50D has enough M toys to keep me happy while giving me a little more economy. Argh decisions.. although it is fun specing up over and over.. |

was in similar situation myself... was tempted to trade in for the facelifted X3 Msport until i found out that it doesn't come with the new fancy looking M sport steering wheels that you see in the X5 or 4 series....
decided to just keep the current X3 as the missus doesn't feel comfortable with the size of the X5...

Thats my only concern, the size.. yet I love passing them and seeing how big they are.. I really need to drive one.
I've now spec'd up M5 and X5 M50D - Talking to the dealer there are some changes to the gearbox from July that improve the MPG (only a little) and lower the CO2 numbers. Also recommended that I try the X5 4.0MSport. I opened Pandora's box! |

I used to know this dilemma so well.
My x3 cured me of my car swapping addiction if only because it's so ordinary and competent. I hope to keep driving mine till it dies and continue using the saved depreciation costs on new cars for weekends in Bali with my wife. If I were a baller, I would certainly love to play with new cars all the time. But finally found a family car that just doesn't what I need and doesn't make me love it.....other than putting in the focal speakers and digital amps from my e92, my x3 d is stock and completely ordinary.....and six months in..... I've only been bothered to drive it 3000km. |

My X3 just turned two and I've got no interest in ditching it for something else. If that thought did cross my mind I'd be replacing my bimmer with a Macan.
I say keep her.
