Apple Carplay

are we able to use Apple Carplay with an iPhone connected via cable to the USB outlet?
I have an older iPhone (IOS 7.1.2), and when pairing it, it makes a bluetooth connection, but doesn't seem to pair with Apple Carplay. I read that Apple Carplay came out with IOS 7.1+, so I'm thinking it should work - although I'd rather have the connection via USB cable rather than Bluetooth, as I use my Google Pixel for Bluetooth connection for calls.

I think it depends on what year your car is and if you then bought the sw from bmw

sorry for not establishing that.
2017, and the carplay is included.

I found that iPhone 4 and older are not compatible with carplay, only iPhone 5 and newer (along with IOS 7.1+).
