Get xenons!!!! 100% You won't regret it. Huge difference and they look so much better too. I wouldn't bother with adaptive personally. They direct lights as you turn the wheel

Definitely get the xenon headlights, they are my most favorite thing about the car. People rave about how awesome the Audi LEDs look but IMO the BMW coronas/angel eyes look a million times better and nowadays many car companies add a strip of LEDs on their cars so it no longer looks that unique. I'm not sure how many BMWs are in your area but there are a lot where I live and most of them here still have the old orange headlights which really shows how dated cars like the current gen X5 look.

Agree angel eyes are so much better than Audi's silly wiggly lines. Mercedes LEDs are worse again. How to ruin an S Class.

Forgot to answer the second part of your question.
The adaptive light control isn't necessary but it's cool to have. Sfax pretty much summed it up; I'm not sure if this is part of adaptive light control or not but when you turn the car it also switches on individual fog-lights for the direction you're turning for better illumination. In terms of night driving the xenons are much much better than the normal halogen ones. Better illumination and looks closer to daylight, I've also noticed that it seems to reflect better off signs, those nodes that separate lanes, and off objects. Edit: Yeah sfax the Mercedes ones looks silly, they definitely look like an afterthought |

IMHO the halogen lights look terrible at night and during the day. With the xenons the lights are more brighter and safer. I am also a huge fan of the corona rings. Trust me, they are one of the must must haves.
Oh and also, The LED strips in the Mercedes and Audi's are now used by Hyundai, Lexus, Ford, and Kia. So they are not as unique as the Bmw rings. |

A must have. Nit only do they look better, the illumination is far better.
I like the additive headlights. Great on sharply curved roads at night. -- illuminates the deer instead of leaving itin shadow!

Agreed, it is a must have option...I have xenon adaptives on my 135i and they're very bright, illuminate objects much farther away and the headlight steering around turns really works...plus they look great. Buy them for safety, buy them for looks.

This might sound like an old Remington ad, but...
I liked the Xenon / Adaptive so much on my Z4, that it was the one thing I insisted on getting on the new X3. (Pity BMW won't let me buy the comapny )

I agree with all the posts. Get the Xenon and Adaptive lights. If you do any night driving on mountain roads you will really appreciate the adaptive head lights.

Go with the Xenon and Adaptive lights. Have them on both of our Bimmers and they do come in handy at night. I have seen articles by some pundits that don't like any of the electronic gadgets on the current models, but always recommend the Xenon headlights.
